My 2017 Recap

2017

Well guys, it’s that time. 2017 has come to an end and 2018 looms ahead. Anyone else shocked at how fast this year has flown by? No? Just me?

Writing

The writing scene has been interesting this year, to be sure…

// I finished editing Imprint and gave it a few close friends and family for a prescreening. I’ve only gotten feedback from one person so far, but hopefully the others will be able to finish and tell me what they think.

After that, I’ll go through their notes, do a teensy bit more editing, and then I’ll be sending it to some beta-readers!! *confetti, cheering, merriment* 😀 I don’t know for sure when I’ll be ready, but let me know down in the comments if there is the slightest bit of interest reading it over. 🙂

// I did JuNoWriMo for a third (fourth…?) time! It was really fun because I decided to go rebel and work on several different projects. I wrote a total of 36,227 words that June! Even though I didn’t win, it was still really great finally getting some of these ideas in my head into rough outlines. 🙂

// I also attempted to do NaNoWriMo again! Though I fared much less successfully than JuNo. I had been going back and forth about what idea to go with, so I ended up deciding on writing a Snow White retelling for the Rooglewood Press Contest.

Well. That didn’t work out.

I think I was just so burned out from work and other matters that I just didn’t have the motivation. So I quit. Still a bit sad about that, but what’s done is done, right?

// Over the course of the year I came up with not one, not two, but FOUR NEW FULL FLEDGED IDEAS. And now I’m drowning in ideas help. XD

bunny rabbits bunny island
Plot bunny invasion. Spoiler alert, that girl is ME. XD

Two of these ideas I shared with you back in June. Crown of Thorns and Pickpocket. They were only baby ideas then. Ha. Ha. Haha. HAHA. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

The other two ideas will remain a mystery for now, though I will tell you that I’ve tentatively titled them The Ink Slinger and They Sit in Darkness. I’m so excited about them guys. But I should also probably work on all the things I’ve already started first. Just maybe. XD

Life

RIP: The Novel, Literature, and Everything Else via Bookriot :: a tragic loss.

// I haven’t really announced this, I think I’ve mentioned it a few times in other posts, but towards the end of the summer I got a job at my local library! I work as an aide, shelving mostly, but also checking in books that come in the book drop and putting requested books that come from other libraries on the shelves. Some days are slow, while other days are WOW PEOPLE. XD I’ve gotten to know a lot of the regulars who come in though, and that’s nice. 🙂

// I got two new cousins this year! Two weddings last year, and now two new friends! 😀 For privacy, I won’t give their full names, but their first names are Jason and Jameson. They’re both boys and they are both adorable. ❤

// I watched a bunch of good movies this year! Some old for the first time and some new! A quick rundown:

Cars 3 | This was really, really good! I thought it was a perfect closing for the Cars trilogy. 5/5.

Spiderman Homecoming | GAH. I JUST. THIS MOVIE. TOM HOLLAND. *flails* SO. GOOD. 5/5.

Jumanji (1995) | I’ve always liked the book, but I hadn’t seen the movie up till now. Robin Williams did SUCH a great job! It was a really entertaining watch. 5/5.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 | Though I didn’t like this one as much as the first, it was still REALLY GOOD. It moved Peter’s storyline along nicely and I can’t wait to see these guys in Infinity War! 😀 4.5/5.

Thor Ragnarok | EASILY MY MOST FAVORITE MOVIE THIS YEAR NO JOKE. Though Spidey gets a close second. JUST. THE BANTER. LOKI. THAT EPIC DOCTOR STRANGE SCENE. *screams for 564984 years* 5/5.

tumblr_otipygVsWj1tberpco2_500.gif 500×259 pixels

The Phantom of the Opera (2005) | I was recommended this movie by one of my coworkers and though there was too much singing for my taste (what was I expecting though, really?), it was still a solid movie. Phantom is so creepy… 3/5.

Divergent (2014) | Can you believe I hadn’t seen this movie yet? It was awesome. Four is awesome. Everything was just awesome. Yeah. XD 4/5.

Arrival (2016) | SO. FASCINATING. I loved this movie TO BITS. The atmosphere, the characters, the setting, it was all just so…fascinating. That’s the best word I can think for it. 5/5.

Nearly All the Bourne Movies (various release dates) | I’ve been watching these with a friend and they are SO. INTENSE. GOODNESS GRACIOUS. My favorite one so far has been the Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner. SO GOOD. 😀 4.5/5

Also, I just started watching Merlin and OH MY GOSH WHAT AM I GETTING MYSELF INTO. I just started season two but GOSH THAT SEASON ONE FINALE. EXCUSE ME WHILE I GO TO MELT INTO A PUDDLE. O_O

I love that gaius just let's him walk out when he says this!!!

// Reading scene was a bit weak this year. I read a grand total of thirty books this year. Sad, I know. But I’m not disappointed! Goodreads tells me that my average rating for the year was 4.5 stars. THAT’S PRETTY GREAT. It was the year of good books, I guess. XD

I won’t list all of the books, but here are a few high lights of the year:

Five Magic Spindles by various authors | LITERALLY SO GOOD. All the stories were so creative and AMAZING. 5/5.

Wires and Nerves by Marissa Meyer | I mean. It’s about Iko. And it has the whole Lunar Chronicles cast. What’s not to love? 5/5.

The Bright Empires series by Richard R. Lawhead | THIS SERIES GUYS. So beautifully descriptive and complex and witty and just EPIC IN GENERAL. 5/5.

Michael Vey by Richard Paul Evans | So I’ve read the first three books so far and THEY’RE SO ADDICTING HELP ME. I’m itching to finish the rest of the books. SOON. O_O 5/5.

The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine | On Goodreads this book has really been looked down upon for not being all that great. But I just LOVED IT. The twists were scream-inducing and the characters were so COOL. I don’t know why nobody likes it?? Like?? -_- 5/5.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl by Shannon Hale | Okay, if that title doesn’t make you want to read it, I don’t know what will. There are footnotes. Three whole pages dedicated to names of squirrels. Text conversations with the Avengers. Still not convinced? 😉 5/5.

Blogging

I haven’t even started watching Sherlock, but I love this so much. XD

Here are some nerdy stats you are all probably dying to see. XD

I wrote 70 posts this year! (Well, 71 counting this post. 🙂 )

My three most popular posts are my three Silmarillion posts which you can read here, here, and here.

I got 1,064 visitors, 134 followers388 likes, and 640 comments. (Also, a shout-out to my top commenters, Laurel, Deborah, Faith, and Abbey! You guys ROCK! ❤ )

I also have an announcement! This site is going to be going through a bit of renovation. Though I have grown to love the owls that I use as a profile picture and on my banner, I’ve decided that it’s time to retire them and bring in something new. I’m not entirely sure what that thing is yet, but it will be good, trust me. 😉

I’m also going to be redoing some of my pages at the top of the site, throwing some away and adding new ones.

And I’m learning to be very careful to only use stuff that is copyright-free, or that I’ve created on my own. I recently read an article (of course I can’t remember who wrote it now… XD ) about a blogger getting sued for copyright infringement, even though she had given credit and it put things in a whole new light for me. I’m going to step lightly now.

Goals for 2018

I really wouldn’t even call these goals, but I have to have something to go off of right?

My loose plans are to work on outlining a TON. I don’t think these ideas can stay in my head for much longer. I need to write them all out so my brain isn’t so strung up on details. XD

THE INSIDE OF MY HEAD.

I have no plans to do JuNo or NaNo, but I’m not against it. I’ll have to see how open my schedule is at the time and decided from there.

And as a last goal, I really want to try and not put too much pressure on myself. I’ve found that I am VERY hard on myself and I don’t know when to stop. So if I need to take a hiatus, then I will. If I need to rework my blog schedule, then I will.

And that’s not just for blogging. Reading, writing, and life too.

We’ll see how well this works out. XD

Happy New Year, bloggers! I hope you have a wonderful 2018! Do you have any resolutions? Goals? Let me know down below!

My Favorite Christmas Movies // A Must-Watch List for the Holidays

Movies and Such (1)

Hey guys! So, I’m sure you all know that Christmas is fast approaching and it’s the time of year when you don’t want to leave your house because driving is a nightmare and it’s absolutely FRIGID outside. (You guys down south are LUCKY.)

But it despite being cold and unwelcoming outside, I’m blessed to have a warm inside where I can snuggle up and watch Christmas movies. 😀 So since the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, I thought I would divulge my top favorite movies for the season. Enjoy.

The Toy that Saved Christmas

VeggieTales will always have a place in my heart. I remember watching this when I was a little thing, back when animation was still so new and this was just AMAZING. Plus you learn a lesson at the end! I mean, I probably didn’t realize that there was a lesson when I was really young, but it must’ve taught me something, I don’t know.

Home Alone

I recently heard on the radio that Home Alone is Minnesota’s favorite Christmas movie. Though I wouldn’t call this my favorite, it’s still a really funny movie. The songs make me feel nostalgic, (even though I wasn’t around when this movie came out), and it just fills a little piece of my heart with happiness.

Frosty the Snowman

This was a staple of my childhood Christmases. I watched it multiple times every year around Christmas time and I basically had the whole movie memorized. I also remember watching the sequel, Frosty Returns, multiple times too. I still never figured out why he says ‘Happy Birthday’ though…

The Year Without a Santa Claus

This is one of those old movies that just makes you smile. I love the Heat and Cold Misers the best. I was always excited when their scene came on. I still get their songs stuck in my head every year. And really, stop motion is just so great. It makes everything seem homey and cozy, like everything is right with the world.

The Santa Clause

I’ve watched this and both sequels so many times, if I watched it now I would know exactly what’s going to happen. And I remember the first time I watched this being so proud that I recognized the characters voices from other movies. I thought I was so cool. XD

The Polar Express

I know a lot of people say that this movie is like super creepy looking, but I like it! The whole story is really cool, I love how all the characters have their own stories, and the ending just makes me so happy. Like waking up from a dream. Plus Josh Groban music is great, A+.

It’s a Wonderful Life

Okay, so maybe you guys remember me posting about this a while ago, but I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS MOVIE BEFORE?? But this year, we finally got my whole family together, and we watched it and it was GREAT. I loved it so much. I finally understand a whole lot of references much better now. XD

Arthur Christmas

So, this one isn’t very well-known, but I’ve watched it a few times now, and I just think it’s such a clever, well-thought-out movie! And it’s HILARIOUS. The characters are so funny! And it’s just heartwarming and meaningful and gah. I love it.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Half an hour of nostalgia. The dancing scene, the Christmas tree, the singing, Linus telling the story of Jesus, it’s just so simple and good. What else is there to say?

Elf

My favorite Christmas movie of all time. I really don’t need to explain this one. If you haven’t watched it WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE. And if you have, well good for you, you rock. *gives you world’s best cup of coffee* 🙂

So those are my favorites! What are your favorite Christmas movies? Am I forgetting any good ones? Let me know down below! ❤

Movies I Haven’t Actually Watched Yet // (Please Don’t Kill Me)

Movies and Such (1)

Hello all! So, I LOVE movies. Like, a LOT. But funny enough, I haven’t watched some pretty big name movies, even though I want to. I just don’t get around to it. XD So, just to get some reactions, I thought I’d list all of the movies that I haven’t watched. (Also, please don’t hurt me. I know it’s ridiculous that I haven’t watched some of these, but I’m trying okay?! XD )

Inception

I reeeeally want to watch this one, but nobody will watch it with me because it’s to…confusing. XD I think it looks awesome, with the dream invasion, and evil companies…Plus the score is EPIC. But I can’t convince anyone to watch it with me. -_-

It’s a Wonderful Life

This is, like, super sad that I haven’t watched this, but I’m allowing myself the excuse that it’s a Christmas movie, so it seems a bit odd to watch it any other time besides…Christmas.

Pride and Prejudice

The newer, 2005 version. With Matthew Macfayden. Yass. Why haven’t I watched this? I dunno. It’s kind of long, and you really need to be ready to watch these kinds of movies. *shrugs* I hear Mr. Darcy is wonderful.

Star Wars

*hoard clambers after Madeline, stomps on her angrily, then leaves, leaving her beaten and ashamed*

Okay, so…I really want to watch these movies, but I would need to MARATHON THEM PEOPLE. Otherwise with longer series like these, I just totally forget what’s happening, (granted I know the Star Wars story and all the characters pretty perfectly, but still.) So sue me. Or just make me watch the movies.

Back to the Future

Oldies but goodies. I wish I would’ve watched them on the day Marty went into the future, back in 2015. That would’ve been awesome.

Harry Potter

Okay, so I’m really iffy on these. I kinda want to read the books too, but I…I just don’t know. I think they’d be really good, but my family…they’re not into the whole HP thing. It’s tough dilemma. I don’t know. We’ll see. I do know that I’d read the books before I watch the movies. Because that just seems right, you know?

Spider-Man

WHICH ONES TO WATCH. I’d love to see the originals with Toby Maguire, but the new Amazing Spider-Man movies look good too. And, of course there’s Homecoming. (I’m totally going to see that one, no one can stop me.)

Pirates of the Caribbean

I just need to watch these. Jack Sparrow is weirdly entertaining and…Will Turner, guys.

Now You See Me

MAGICIANS. THAT ARE CON ARTISTS. I require this in my life. And they have a whole bunch of cool actor/esses in them, so…there’s that.

Star Trek

I love stories in space, what can I say? I need me some Spock. Vulcan’s are awesome. Live long and prosper.

The Hunger Games

When this first came out, I was super curious about it. But, then I heard that it was really dark and gory? Bloody? I don’t know, but I shied away, because I’m super squeamish about that kinda stuff. I might consider watching them now, though.

So there’s my list. Go ahead, attack me. I can take it. XD What are some popular movies that you haven’t seen? Please tell me I’m now alone…Let me know down below!

A Trip Down Memory Lane // A List of My Favorite Old TV Shows

OldTVShows

Hello all! I was recently looking up some of my favorite TV shows from when I was little, and I got extremely nostalgic. (Yeah, I’m only 16, but I can get nostalgic, okay?) So I thought it’d be fun to share some of my childhood with you all. Maybe you remember some of these shows too…

Image result for arthur showArthur

This was my all-time favorite show as a kid. I knew most of the episodes by heart and I’d always get excited when the little number would roll onto the screen, meaning it would be a new episode!!

Image result for clifford the big red dog showClifford the Big Red Dog

Another great show. I remember I would always get frustrated with Cleo and Mac, and I remember thinking that Birdwell Island being shaped as a bone was the coolest. thing. ever.

Image result for cyberchaseCyberchase

This show legit taught me math, not even kidding. XD And I remember loving the episode that was a huge Harry Potter rip-off (though I didn’t know that at the time XD ). It was one of those shows that I always watched everyday, without fail. That, and Arthur.

Image result for dragon talesDragon Tales

I loved this show too much. XD I like to think it inspired my love of dragons and fantasy, but you just really can’t know. I always wanted to be like Emmy and have Casey as my dragon to fly around on in Dragon Land. *sighs* Good times… XD

Image result for fetch with ruff ruffmanFetch! with Ruff Ruffman

This was a half-real, half-cartoon show that I would eagerly wait to come on. I loved it because it was real kids, who got to do really cool stuff. I always wanted to be on the show.

Image result for kim possibleKim Possible

She was the superhero that I looked up to in my youth. (I…actually still kinda look up to her… XD ). Her sidekick, Ron Stoppable, was hilarious and I loved that he was the confused, scared one who had no idea what to do. I relate to him a lot… XD

Image result for maya and miguelMaya & Miguel

My upgrade from Dora the Explorer. XD No, but seriously, this was a great show! I always wanted to be friends with Maya. She just seemed so perky and friendly. I also love now that they included such unique characters. (Andy, anyone?)

Image result for pb&j otterPB&J Otter

We’re going waaaaay old school here. I remember this from when I was only a wee little one. Butter was always hilarious to me. And so was Flick Duck. “Cheese and quackers!”

Image result for zoboomafooZoboomafoo

Without fail, I always watched this at lunch time, sitting in the living room with my lunch. My favorite part was when the “Who Could it Be?” song played, and you had to guess which animal would appear at the end. 🙂

Image result for zoom tv showZoom

This was like the show you watched if you were cool. At least, in my opinion. XD As with most of the shows, it was always my dream to be on it, doing cool experiments and being in each of the segments. 😛

Well, that was my childhood in a nutshell. What about you? Do you remember any of these shows? Which ones did I miss? Let me know in the comments down below!

Doctor Strange // A Movie Review

Hey guys! So, in the hectic-ness of NaNo, I managed to head down to the theater with a friend and watch Doctor Strange.

AND IT WAS SO GOOD.

Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilising a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel Cinematic Universe

High Lights:

  • The ACTION. It was never dull and all the fight scenes were really well done.
  • The HUMOR. For real though, it was hilarious, and really kept the mood light.
  • The special effects were AMAZING. It was really interesting to watch and I LOVED how the ‘magic’ was portrayed.
  • Also, there’s this adorable little cape that is just…adorable. ❤ He’s hilarious and alive and it’s great. 🙂
  • The plot was really thought out and I know some people will see the whole ‘time is relative’ thing as old hat, but I really liked it in this movie.
  • DOCTOR STRANGE. The entire reason of this movie. At first, he’s kinda of a mean guy, but as the story progresses, he’s actually really cool and funny. I LOVED how Benedict Cumberbatch portrayed him. And I also thought his American accent sounded very strange (ha, see what I did there?) He did it really well, it just felt weird, you know?
  • Wong is hilarious. That is all. 🙂

Low Lights:

  • I was a bit wary at first, since it really seemed to be pushing the sorcery and occult and such. And there is a good deal of that in the movie, but I felt it didn’t detract from the story.
  • A few parts were super, super intense. Like, really scary. But they helped push the story along, so I didn’t mind it too much.
  • As with all Marvel movies, there was a bit of swearing, but much less so than I’ve seen in other movies (at least I think so).

Conclusion:

If you haven’t already seen it, (and even if you have!) I highly recommend watching this movie. Plus, I have a feeling Doctor Strange is going to be a big part of the MCU (*cough cough* THE TWO CLIPS AT THE END *cough cough*), so that’s exciting. 😀

There you are, my little review. 🙂 I hope you got something out of it, and if you’ve already watched the movie, WE CAN TALK ABOUT IT. LIKE, A LOT. ❤

Book to Movie Wishlist

Hello bloggers!

So, I realized today that I’m actually out of characters to do the CC posts… *facepalm* Well, that’s not entirely true. There are more characters, but they’re in the second and third books, and I didn’t know if doing posts about them would be confusing or whatever… *shrugs*

So while that’s TBD, I thought I’d give you a short post of my book-to-movie adaptations wishlist. And just FYI:

this:

So, that being said, let’s get it on!

~

The Grimm Legacy

6760780

It’s not a very well-known book, but I would still love to see it on the big screen. The idea is that there’s a special library that lends things instead of books. But they’re not just any things. They’re magic things

Heartless

7069751

I just recently started reading this series and I’ve loved everything I’ve read so far. I have a feeling it would have a Narnia/Lord of the Rings feel if it was a movie. Also, there would be some scary CGI monsters…

The Candy Shop War

18775240

This would be such an interesting movie. So much is happening and things really get crazy toward the end. Plus the magic/candy aspect of it would be fun, visually. The characters are all really fun and intriguing too. It would be a twisty, turny, mysterious kind of movie…

.

Illusionarium

22840398

This would basically be the best movie ever. Period.  It’s got everything. Mystery, intrigue, monsters, action, romance…

The Goose Girl and/or Princess Academy

17906485990

Shannon Hale really has a way with mixing vivid imagery with action, so I think they would be really appealing, visual-wise. Plus the characters are amazingly written. All the action sequences would be really cool too, with the elemental control and such.

.

Cinder

11235712

Okay, you knew this one was coming… But seriously!! This needs to be a thing!! It would be EPIC.

~

Well, hopefully that was vaguely entertaining… 🙂 Let me know what books you would like to see become epic 17-hour spectacles! 😛

Captain America: Civil War // A Movie Review

So, I very recently saw Civil War so I thought I would write a short kind of review-type-thingy (actually just me rambling 😀 ) about it (with no spoilers) instead of a Character Conversation. 🙂

~~~~
And yes, I can’t choose a side. Unless Bucky is a side.
EEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was possibly the most stressful, but complete awesome Marvel movie I’ve yet to see. 😀
There wasn’t really a major plot per se, but I think the fact that the teams are divided and fighting against each other is reason enough to watch.
It was really hard for me, because I felt that Cap was fighting for the right reasons, but…I don’t know. Iron Man just has a special place in my heart. His was the first Marvel movie I ever watched.
But the teams. THE TEAMS. IT WAS SO GREAT.
.
It was SO STRESSFUL. Spiderman was basically yes, and Ant-man…YES. Vision is also yes. Hawkeye, yes. SO MUCH YES. The banter between the different heroes was hilarious.
Of course, Tony and Steve weren’t doing much of that. It felt like hey were too dead set on killing each other that they didn’t have time for…talking? I don’t know.
Also, BUCKY!!!!!!!!!!! YES-NESS!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT ALSO NO!!!!!!!!!!!! I am having some major feels about him…to. much. feeling. I just…HELP ME.
