Hello friends, and welcome! If you’ve read the title you can probably guess what this post is going to be about already…
This ol’ blog has been around for a grand three years. It’s seen some changes, both good and bad, but it has come through.
I, as a blogger, have changed quite a bit myself. I’m almost nineteen years old now, and it’s hard to believe I started blogging when I was a wee fifteen-year-old. It seems so long ago…XD
Shall we take a gander at an old post of mine? This one dates back to April 4th, 2016, my very first blogiversary.
[Titled Short & Snappy Blogiversary]
Well, it’s been officially one year since I started Short & Snappy. Can you believe it?
It’s been a crazy year. I’ve posted so much, and yet it feels like so little. XD I’ve had a great experience, reading all of your comments, discovering new blogs, and making new friends. It’s been great fun. ^_^
And so, to celebrate, I’m thinking about adding a new segment called Character Conversations, where I’ll (try) to post an interview of my characters every Saturday! What do you guys think?
Thank you guys for making my first year blogging a great one! ❤
Quite painful, to say the least. Did I attempt to put any sort of effort into this post? I’d like to say I’ve grown as a writer since then…XD
This blog has seen a lot of traffic during its lifetime. Over 3,000 of you guys have visited my little corner of the internet, over 170 of you have made the descison to follow my adventures, and nearly 2,000 comments have been dropped on a total of 225 posts. Gosh, that’s a lot of people. I’m truly touched by all of your generosity.
And now, for that special announcement! If you’ve read some of my previous posts, you’ll know that I’ve been considering creating a movie review blog. Well, I’m glad to say that this has become a reality!
Hello, fellow fantasy freaks and geeks! I’m here to present to you a most fabulous new project put together by three lovely ladies called Fairy Tale Central!
Once Upon a Time… two girls had a dream. A dream of a fairy tale site, an internet library, if you will, for all the fairy tale lovers of the land to gather and converse. To learn, to read, to fangirl/boy, to bask in the goodness that is fairy tales.
As this dream blossomed, the two girls recruited a third. Because, after all, all good fairy tales come in themes of three.
With the third member in place, the girls got to work. The dream began to take shape, until it was no longer just a dream. But something real.
Every month a single fairy tale will be featured, and posts will include:
Reviews for retellings/shows/movies/etc.
Essay, origin, and discussion posts on the featured fairy tale
Interviews with fairy tale retelling authors
Galleries featuring fairy tale artists and artisans
And a whole lot more!
The FTC’s goal is to unlock the magic that is fairy tales and build a community of fellow fairy tale enthusiasts. Arielle, Faith, and Christine are thrilled to share this new fairy tale-centric space and connect with all you epic fairy tale fans!
You can CLICK HERE to find the site and join the Fairy Ring! (Don’t worry, you won’t be enchanted or cursed.) And, if you want to connect even more, you can find the FTC on:
(If you’re inclined to share about the FTC in those places too, you may or may not be blessed by a fairy godmother. *smile, smile*)
Do tell a friend, or a dragon, or the fairy living in the hollow tree behind your house. All humans and mythological creatures alike are welcome!
I am SO PUMPED about this project and I cannot WAIT to see what the three fairies who put this masterpiece together dream up next for this site! Please go check out the site and all of the bloggers who worked so hard to make it a reality!
Hey guys! You’re probably wondering what’s wrong with me. I haven’t been updating my word count, I’ve been replying late to your blog posts, and I haven’t posted myself in a good while.
Well, this post is to answer all three of those questions!
As a lot of you know, I was planning on writing a Snow White retelling for the Rooglewood Press contest. It was set in the 1920s and had gangsters and mafia bosses and magic and epic-ness in general. XD
Well, I have to say, I love this story to bits and I would love to finish it someday.
But today is not that day.
I think part of the problem this month was just wasn’t in the right mindset. It seemed like work and family and life and writing was just coming at me in all different directions, and I couldn’t handle it. I couldn’t focus and my mind just wasn’t set on writing this month.
So, I probably won’t be entering my story in the contest, and I won’t be winning NaNo. I am SO GRATEFUL for all of your support and encouragement! ^_^ But I see now that I should’ve just given myself a respite this month, instead of just pushing through. And now I’m suffering the consequences. XD
So there’s my story. But enough gloom. Instead of wallowing in self loathing, I thought I would celebrate all you writers who are ACING IT at NaNo! I’ve seen all of you guys’ ideas and they just all sound so WONDERFUL AND I WANT TO GOBBLE THEM ALL UP. (Get it? Turkey pun? Thanksgiving? Oh, Thanksgiving’s over? …Oh.)
Christine!! ACK YOUR IDEA I JUST. *flails* Camera that takes pictures from the past? Creepy forest island? PRECIOUS CINNAMON ROLL JONAH? YES PLEASE. <333
Deborah!! STEAMPUNK LITTLE MERMAID IS SOMETHING I NEED IN MY LIFE. Wind spirits, skynavy, pirates, assassins, CAN I JUST HAVE THIS BOOK ALREADY PLEASE AND THANK YOU. <333
Hayden!! Seriously, GO LOOK AT HER FIRST PARAGRAPH. *clutches heart* SO. GOOD. <333
Laurel!! Your writing style is just so…*flails* AMAZING. THAT FIRST LINE. KELL. I JUST. Snippets please please please. <333
Mary!! Can I just? This line? “Getting involved in a murder plot was not how she thought her day would go.” *dies* I NEED THIS BOOK. <333
Savannah!! You little rebel. I BELIEVE IN YOU! <333
Katie!! You do not know HOW MUCH I WANT A SUPERHERO NOVEL. O_O That blurb is EPIC-NESS IN A PARAGRAPH. I just want to fangirl over this novel so bad okay. <333
Also, all you lovelies who entered the Rooglewood Contest!!
Hi guys! I’m so glad to be back from my mini hiatus, back in the blogosphere!
I do have an announcement though. And I hope this doesn’t cause too much of a stir. There are going to be a few (temporary!) changes here on my blog. For the duration of October and till the end of November, I’m only going to be posting every other week, instead of my usual once a week. I’ve been very worried about trying to prep for NaNo and it takes a load off my back not having to worry about getting a post up every week.
I’m working on a shiny new post as we speak and I will be back next week! I hope I haven’t let you all down, I’ve just been feeling really overwhelmed of late. This is only temporary, and I’ll be back to once a week come December. (Wow, it’s almost December already?! O_O)
And now, for your consideration:
An adorable panda gif! 😀
Thank you all for understanding and I hope you’re having a glorious fall! ^_^
Answer 11 questions from your nominator, then tag 11 other bloggers, and ask them 11 new questions.
The Blue Sky Tag ~
Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their post. Answer the 11 questions. Tag 11 people. Give your nominees 11 questions to answer.
Let’s get to it!
The Sunshine Blogger Award ~
1. What’s the most addicting app on your phone?
I don’t actually have a phone (unless you count a flip-phone as one 😉 ), but I do have a Nook full of stuff. I would probably have to say the most addicting app right now is CrossStitchWorld. Yeah…I know. Kinda seems like a grandma game, but it’s really fun! I love seeing the picture come together in the end. 🙂
2. What’s a song that speaks to your life right now?
My music moods are different every day, so it’s hard for me to pick just one song. But, if I had to pick just one, it’d be Higher by Unspoken. It’s not only a really cool song, but it also reminds me that I should live my life to glorify the One who gave me this life. Even in the rough times. Especially in the rough times. ❤
3. Do you have a book or movie that’s your “happy place”–a fictional world into which you retreat when you need a breather? What is it?
I love escaping into any fictional world! But my favorite happy place would probably have to be any of the Pixar movies. I grew up loving them and I can remember watching Monsters Inc. in particular over and over again. They always put a smile on my face and I love them all so dearly! ❤
4. What’s a book you were (or are) looking forward to so much you’re scared to read it, for fear it won’t live up to your expectations?
Right now, I’m incredibly nervous to read The Fatal Tree, the last book on the Bright Empires series. I just cannot prepare myself for what’s going to happen, so I’m just going to have to take the plunge… *gulp*
5. If you had to have all of your past memories wiped except for one day, which day would you choose to remember?
Oh dear, that’s a toughie! Let’s see…I might choose a day out of one of my family vacations, the trip we took to South Dakota in particular. That was a really, really fun trip, and we were all together, having a great time with each other. I would never want to forget how close me and my family are. 🙂
6. What question would you like to ask one of your favorite authors?
These questions keep getting tougher and tougher! 😛 I’ve always wanted to ask Marissa Meyer a question, but I feel like I would just kinda go into fangirl mode and not be able to talk. XD Hmm…I think I’d ask Anne Elisabeth Stengl what helped her in keeping track while writing a series. That’s something I struggle with, and I think Anne does a good job of it.
7. If you had to describe yourself as one of the four seasons, which would it be?
Definitely fall. Or autumn, if you’re British. 😉 There’s just so much to love about it! Apple pie, pumpkin spice, hayrides, colorful leaves, cool, crisp air, the beginning of a new school year… It’s a wonderful time of year! ^_^
8. What’s your personality type? (Myers Briggs, DISC, whichever test you prefer.)
I’m a full on INFJ, according to the Myers Briggs test. Everything I’ve read about INFJs just fit me to a tee. Which is hard sometimes because I feel a bit lonely, being so rare and such… But I don’t mind. Too much, anyway. XD
9. An envelope containing $500 shows up on your doorstep. On what do you spend it?
Well, books, duh. XD
10. Would you rather be trapped in a lamp, a tower, or an enchanted sleep?
Ooh, I think I would pick a lamp! Wouldn’t I be a genie of some sort then? At least in my imprisonment, I would be able to help some poor souls instead of just wallowing miserably in my prison. 😛
11. Which Disney villain(ess) do you find the most scary?
When I was younger, I was absolutely terrified of Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. The part where she turns into a dragon? We always skipped that part. XD Now that I’m older, I would probably say either Ursula from The Little Mermaid, or Scar from The Lion King.
The Blue Sky Tag ~
1. What is your first reaction when someone knocks on your door?
I usually jerk my head up and stare confusedly at my siblings because…we never have unexpected visitors. XD
2. Whose name makes you smile as soon as you hear it? Care to share why?
Well, any of my family’s names make me happy. And the name of Jesus Christ, of course. 🙂 I love hearing my characters’ names too, when I’m out and about and I overhear someone say one of their names. I love that when it happens. ❤
3. What exotic animal is your favorite?
I’m not sure if this counts as an exotic animal since it’s not technically real, but I’ve always thought phoenixes were super cool. A new bird rising from the ashes of the old, fiery wings, all that neat stuff. Or, you know, a dragon.
4. If you had to go on a trip to the moon, what book series would you take with you? (It can only be one!)
Well…I can tell you right now, I would try my hardest to get out of going on a trip to the moon. XD The stars from afar are good for me. But, I suppose if I had to, I would pick The Lunar Chronicles…Though, that may not be the best idea, since scary moon people are a involved…
5. Fairy tales or super heroes?
This is sooo hard! I love them both equally! I couldn’t possibly choose!
6. What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
It’s actually the one I’m reading right now, Five Magic Spindles by various authors. I’ve loved all the stories so far and I’m so sad I’m on the last one! I’m going to be putting up a review of it pretty soon. 😉
7. Are you more like a Hobbit, Elf, Dwarf, Goblin, Ent, or Orc?
I’m definitely more like a Hobbit. They live in their cozy Hobbit holes and drink tea and read books. If I had a Hobbit hole, I would probably be labeled a Hobbit. XD
8. Since warm weather is coming, what is your favorite summer activity?
When I was younger I loved swimming a LOT. But after a…traumatic experience that involved a lake and some itchy bugs…well, it made me a little wary. 😛 I love basketball, rollerblading, and swinging most. ❤
9. Name your best childhood memory.
*tries to remember childhood* I’m…kinda drawing a blank here, which is really sad. XD But I do remember we used to have a tire swing in our backyard at our old house. I would love to just sit in there and swing or have Dad push us as high as it could possibly go. Those were fun times. ^_^
10. What were you like as a kid? (good, bad, artsy, funny, etc…?)
Well, I suppose I should be honest…I wasn’t a very good kid. I’m told I was really naughty, and I had a hard time focusing. But I think I was also really creative and curious, which inspired my interests of writing now. I read my favorite books over and over again and I would write down all the good dreams I had in a special notebook. (Really, what’s changed? XD )
11. If you could invent anything, what would it be?
Hmm…A special device that when you connected it to your head, it wrote down exactly what you were thinking? I could go for one of those! XD
Alright, that’s a wrap!
Here are my questions:
What is your oldest memory? How far back do you remember?
If you could have a super power/magic ability, what would you choose?
If someone was going to play you in the movie of your life, who would you want cast?
If you could learn any instrument instantly, which would you choose?
If you were so famous you got mobbed every time you went outside, what would be your go-to disguise?
If you had an animal sidekick, what animal would it be? Could it talk? Fly? Shapeshift?
What book/series would you love to be made into a TV show/movie?
What villain from a book or movie would you most love to see transformed into a good guy?
What’s the theme song of your life?
Iron Man or Captain America? Superman or Batman? Marvel or DC?
What is the most shocking plot twist you’ve ever read in a book? (You don’t have to say what it is, just what book it’s from! 🙂 )
Okay, so I don’t really know who’s received these awards, so if you’ve already done either of them, don’t feel obligated, but my nominations are as follows:
Oh my goodness, guys. Today, this day, it’s been exactly two years since I started blogging. Can you believe it’s been two years already?! I surely can’t! I’ve had a fabulous time blogging, talking to you guys, and participating in fun events, such as the Silmarillion Awards!
Thank you for making these two years wonderful! Your comments always brighten my day and I’m so glad I’ve come to know you all! ^_^
To celebrate, I have some exciting news…
CHARACTER CONVERSATIONS ARE BACK! 😀
I have so many more main, minor, and antagonistic characters that I’d love for you to meet, so I’m really excited to share them with you!
I’ll try to be posting every Saturday, but life tends to get in the way, so it’s not a guarantee. But I’ll try my best!
Thank you again, all you followers and commenters! Here’s hoping you have a wonderful April! ❤
Well, golly. It’s actually 2017? *waves at time passing by at abnormal speeds*
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” – I’d say this quite perfectly sums up 2016, for me at least. There were a lot of worst times, but there were also a lot of very best times. And since I try not to be a pessimist, here are the best of times this year for me. 🙂
~ I went to two of my cousins’ weddings this year. (One of which I was a bridesmaid in!) The first wedding was in March, the day before Easter, actually. We took a long drive up to northern Minnesota and had a nice time meeting with family. My brother was one of the ushers. The second wedding was in June, (and it was super hot, let me tell you…). It was at my cousin’s parents’ barn, which is like seven miles away from us, so no long drive this time. I was a bridesmaid in this one, and I had to wear high heels for the first time…I stumbled a lot. XD But I got to wear a super cute dress, so it was okay. 🙂
~ I turned 16 in July this year! I’m not much of a…party person, so there was no ‘Sweet Sixteen Bash’ or anything. I just hung out with family and ate cake, you know? Thus far, being sixteen is no different than being fifteen. Excepted sometimes I feel obligated to get a job and pay a lot of things for myself. That doesn’t really work out though, since I still don’t have my driver’s license…
~ I got braces towards the end of October (which worked out good because I was partially distracted by NaNo and such). At first, I absolutely detested them. They hurt my teeth and my face and I basically wanted them off. Now. But we’ve come to a civil relationship and I hardly notice them much anymore. Plus, there’s like a million rubber band colors to choose from…O_O
~ I finished Rewrite during Junowrimo this year. I had already written 14,000 words from my failed attempt at Nanowrimo in 2015, so I was ahead by a bit. I still ended up with 45,000 words though, and a half finished story. It was a ton of fun to write though! ❤
~ I also wrote Erase this year during Nanowrimo, which I had much better success with (compared to last year’s attempt..). I didn’t win, but I made 45, 000 words. And the story’s far from over…like, 70,000 words from over…it’s going to be monstrous and an absolute dream to edit, I imagine.
~ I’m working on revising and editing Imprint to get ready for publishing (maybe). I have my parents and aunt helping with things like sentence structure and wording. I have the first few chapters relatively polished, and I’ve written my very first query letter. It was…interesting, and I still don’t know if I’ve done it right, but I guess I’ll find out when I send it out. XD
~ I participated in the first annual Silmarillion Awards put out by Jenelle Schmidt and D.J. Edwardson, and it was a TON of fun. 🙂 You can check this post to see who the winner was for Most Epic Hero (hosted by Aragorn). It was also my most viewed post this year on my blog. Thanks to all who commented! ^_^
~ I somehow managed to reach over 80 subscribers…so, um, that’s AWESOME. 🙂 Thank you to all who read and comment on my blog. You rock! ❤
~ Also this year, I wrote 86 posts. 86 GUYS. That’s a TON for me.
I saw a lot of good movies this year! Some are new this year and some I just saw for the first time.
Zootopia ~ 5/5
Aww, this is possibly the best animated film I saw this year. It was just so cute and fun and HILARIOUS. XD
Captain America: Civil War ~ 5/5
You can read my full review here, but basically IT WAS NOT OKAY. BUT ALSO AMAZING. It’s complicated…
The Tourist ~ 4.5/5
I really, really liked this one! It had a lot of action and wit and I DID NOT see the plot twist coming…There were a few suggestive parts and language, so I bumped it down a half star, but otherwise, totally fun!
Napolean Dynamite ~ 5/5
Guys, I think this may be the funniest movie I saw this year. IT’S JUST SO HILARIOUS. My sense of humor could be described as lethally sarcastic, which is why I found it so funny. Definitely a must-watch!
Finding Dory ~ 5/5
I actually didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. It was no Finding Nemo, but I still loved every minute of it. It brought back maybe a bit of nostalgia, since I remembering watching Finding Nemo a lot when I was younger. 🙂
Lord of the Rings trilogy ~ 5/5
I have to give these all five stars. I just have to. They’re SO. GOOD. I don’t really have to say much else. If you haven’t watched them, DO IT. NOW.
Doctor Strange ~ 5/5
You can read my full review here. But mostly all you need to know is that it was EPIC. I totally loved it. There were a few sprinkles of weird stuff here and there, but all in all, it was a GREAT movie.
Trolls ~ 4/5
This is probably the movie I liked the least this year. And it’s not that it wasn’t good or anything. It was. Though had I been younger, I think I would’ve enjoyed it more. But there was a lot of references to the 80s which was fun to see. 🙂
School of Rock ~ 4.5/5
This was hilarious, is all I can say. All the school kids are awesome in their own way and I really liked their relationship with Dewie. It was just a fun movie to watch.
So, I kinda feel like I…failed…in the reading department this year. Don’t get me wrong, all the books I read were (for the most part) SUPER GOOD. I just didn’t read very much is all.
I only read 35 books this year. That’s not too bad, but I feel I could’ve read more. A couple of favorites from this year…
Goals for 2017 ~
I’m really trying to focus on polishing up Imprint, but I do plan on doing either JuNo or NaNo, depending on what’s going on those months. I plan on sending out a query sometime at the beginning of January to a publishing house. I don’t know how it will go, but I’m excited to find out!
Also, I’m trying to outline a new trilogy! O_O It’s kind of weird, now that the Imprint trilogy is mostly written. (Of course, there’s still a bunch of work that needs to be done on all three books, but still.) I’m excited to start this new series.
I also got a Wattpad account and I have more than a dozen ideas for some novellas and short stories I may or may not post on there. We’ll see. 😉
Since last year’s reading was a bit of a bust, I’m setting my a bit lower this year in hopes that I’ll be more motivated to reach it. My Goodreads challenge is set for 50 books. We’ll see if I can make it!
I really want to connect with more bloggers this year. I follow so many blogs, but I never really interact with the authors, so I’m going to try to comment more and make new friends. 😉
The most important thing I’m going to try and focus on this year is digging into the Word. I feel like for the most part, I’ve been neglecting God’s Word. I’m on a mission to change that and become more immersed in the Bible than I was last year.
Other, smaller things ~
~ I should probably get a job of some sort. I don’t know.
~ I need to drive more, despite my sheer dislike of it. And that’s made harder by the fact that I live in a cold, icy state, where driving is dangerous this time of year. 😛
~ I also am trying to find ways to share my musical abilities with others. I’m not much for being the center of attention, but I would love to be an accompanist or play in an orchestra maybe.
Phew…That’s a wrap! I hope you all had a wonderful 2016 and have an even better 2017! Have you made an resolutions? Goals? Chat with me in the comments below!
