Well, JuNo is good and over and…wow. It was a lot of fun!! I may not have reached 50,000 words, but I did reach over half!
Crown of Thorns // 16,057 words
Pickpocket // 1,100 words
Wanted for Time // 2,426 words
Breakthrough // 4,870 words
Blogging (including this post, since it was prewritten)Β //Β Β 5,968 words
GRAND TOTAL // 36,227 words!
And, since I didn’t really share any of my writings with you last month, here are some choice picks for you! They aren’t actual prose (except for Breakthrough), but rather bullet point outlines (since that’s the format that works best for me).
- Merrick looked at Jerrick. βBrother, you look unwell.β
- I know that, Merri. I was trying to be quiet about it.
- βSee,β the queen said. βMerrick noticed too.β
- βIβm fine,β Jerrick insisted. But of course, no one listened.
- βNo youβre not,β the queen said. βJerrick Eddi Afernell, come over this moment.β
- Jerrick grudgingly went to see his mother.
- She was shocked and appalled at how horrible he looked. She examined him with a vengeance.
- Donβt look at my arms.
- βShow me your arms.β
- β¦
- βJERRICK! What is this?! Youβre all burnt up!β

Jake gave Jasper a weak smile. They were sitting at a table alone in the cafeteria, the meal of the day on their plates. βIβm supposed to meet someone at lunch, but I donβt know who gave it to me and Iβm pretty sure someone wants to hurt me.β
βSo donβt let them,β Jasper said simply. βGiveβem what for.β
Jake gave an incredulous look. βReally? Thatβs a good idea. Scare the bully. Then everybody will really hate me.β
βNobody hates you.β Jasper picked at his slice of meatloaf. βJust some people.β
βYou should write a motivational book,β Jake said laughing. ββNot everyone hates you, only some people.β Really encouraging, Jas.β
Jasper grinned. βIβve always had a way with words.β

- Rayven whirled around to look up at Jerrick in the window. βYou heard that? Did I wake you?β
- βNo. I woke up myself. What are you doing out here? Donβt you know itβs dangerous outside at night?β
- Rayven turned back around. βI know. But Iβve always loved night time. Itβs so quiet and peaceful.
- I wish.
- βDo you love night time?β
- Β Jerrick said nothing for a moment. βI wished I did sometimes. But I fear it was never good for me.β

β βDonβt you know wands are illegal here, Dril?β It was a small town, so everyone knew everyone else.
β Dril may have had a faint tendril of knowledge that wands were illegal for use. And Wivern had been labeled the townβs kookβ¦
β βBut why would Old Mage Wivern give it to me then?β he protested.
β Charle chuckled. βWivern is old and stuck in his ways. He canβt remember things like that.β
β Dril found that this offended him. Wivern was his very good friend, and he wouldnβt have Charle insulting him so.
β βI hardly think it fair then. He didnβt know.β
β βBut you did, Drilidric.β
β Dril stuttered for a response, but found none. He hung his head and handed Charle the wand.

βLook,β Charlie said, crossing his arms. βIf you think Iβm here to beat you up or something, youβre wrong. I really need to talk to you.β
Maybe it was something about Mikayla. Charlie and she were dating and just last week, Jake had told Principal Mars that Mikayla had left a nasty note in his locker. She hadnβt been too happy about that.
βAbout what?β Jake said quietly.
βIβ¦β Charlie faltered, as if afraid. βI need to ask for a favor.β
Jake stared at Charlie. He mustβve misheard. βWhat?β
Charlie kicked at the ground. βA favor. I need your help.β
βMy help?β Jake was incredulous. This strong, stocky football jock needed his help? He found that hard to believe.
βYeahβ¦β He looked up, fear in his eyes. βYouβre the only one who can help.β

- βThat does not sound like a gift,β Rayven said quietly. βIt rather sounds like a curse.β
- Jerrick looked at Rayven. βIt feels like a curse,β he said sighing.
- βBut you did save my life.β She smiled.
- Jerrick felt elation rise in his chest. But he immediately shoved it back down. This was not meant to be. Rayven would marry Merrick, not him.
- If Merrick was still alive.
- βMy court will decide if it is a Gift or Katara,β Leonardo said. βWe will have a trial in the morning.β
- Jerrick froze. βTrial? Canβt I go free?β
- Β βYou may be out of the dungeons, prince Jerrick,β the king said. βBut you are still my prisoner.β

β Dril reached out and grabbed the chain. It was an interesting key, a very unusual looking one. It was rather flat and much wider at the top. And the teeth were sharp and jagged.
β βI wonder where it goes to,β Dril mused. βItβs not a key Iβve ever seen before.β
β Zed glanced around to be sure no one was listening. βMy father thinks itβs fromβ¦the World.β
β Dril froze, the key dangling from the chain. βReally?β he said in fascination. He couldnβt believe it. Heβd heard about people traveling to the World through portals, but he had thought them only fables.
β βYes,β Zed said excitedly. βI just found it lying on the road on the way here, actually. It was too interesting to pass up.β
β Dril studied the key again. And he decided he should like to have it.

β Breathing a sigh of relief, Sydney listened as her captors shuffled into the alley, only to find it empty.
β The leader yelled angrily, and for a moment, Sydney contemplated giving a cheeky wave down at him. But she thought better of it. It wouldnβt do for them to know she was up here.
β So instead, she wandered the rooftops of London, feeling like a chimney sweep. So giddy was she that she started dancing to the music in her head.
β Which in hindsight may not have been the best thing to do, because the men saw her immediately, and acted accordingly.
