The Christmas Song Book Tag

Hello everyone!

I have a Christmas-y themed tag today, since, well, it’s almost Christmas. 🙂 I believe it was originally created by booktuber Hailey in Bookland. And since I’m currently fresh out of creative ideas, I thought I’d give it a whirl.

On to the questions!

1. “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch”
Name a villainous character you couldn’t help but love.

I’d have to say Kaz from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. He’s just plain awesome (setting aside the disappointment of the second book 😦 ). And he’s definitely very villainous…and proud of it… XD

2. “All I Want for Christmas is You”
Which book to you most hope to see under your Christmas tree?

I’d love to see any books under the tree, really. XD But in particular, I’ve had my eye on the Bright Empire series by Stephen R. Lawhead for a while…

3. “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”
Name a character that overcomes major obstacles and learns to believe in themselves.

Ooh, that’s a tough one! I might choose Cress from the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. At first, she’s really timid and scared of everything. But as the series progresses, she becomes steadily more brave and sure of herself. She’s one of my favorite characters in the series. 🙂

4. “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”
a) Which character do you think would be on the top of the naughty list?
b) Which character do you think would be at the top of the nice list?

A) I’m going to have to go with Kaz again… XD Just because of…reasons. Lots and lots of reasons.

B) I’m gonna say Jonathan from Illusionarium by Heather Dixon. Sure, he’s not perfect, but I think his heart’s in the right place. ❤

5. “Frosty the Snowman”
Which book just melts your heart.

Without a doubt, Heartless by Anne Elisabeth Stengl. Because obviously if I were heartless, my heart would’ve melted, right? 😛 All kidding aside, this book was really gripping and it really did melt my poor heart into a feelsy mess.

6. “Feliz Navidad”
Choose a book that takes place in a country other than your own.

I’m trying to think…Does a sorta imaginary/real world count? If it does, then I choose Illusionarium, which takes place in London in alternate universes.

7. “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”
Which holiday themed book do you use to spread the Christmas joy?

Perhaps the obvious choice would be the Bible, since it contains the Christmas story. 🙂 And I don’t really read holiday themed books much anyways.

8. “Sleigh Ride”
Which fictional character would you choose to spend the holidays with (doesn’t have to be a love interest!)

ALL OF MY FAVORITES. I can’t choose, seriously? I’d love to spend Christmas with all of them! ❤

9. “Baby it’s Cold Outside”
Which book that you didn’t like would you sacrifice to a fire to warm yourself up in the cold?

Burn a book?! How dare you! *shakes head disapprovingly* In all honesty, though, I don’t think I’d ever have the gumption to burn a book, even if it was horrible. *shudders*

10. “Do You Hear what I Hear?”
Which book do you think everyone should read?

ALL THE BOOKS. No? You can’t do that? Okay, well, here’s a few recommendations then; Paper Crowns by Mirriam Neal, the Tales of Goldstone Wood by Anne Elisabeth Stengl, Illusionarium by Heather Dixon, Twinepathy by C.B. Cook, and the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer.

That’s the tag! Do you have a favorite book to read around Christmas? A favorite Christmas song? Feel free to do this tag if you so desire. I hope you’re all having a wonderful Christmas season and I’ll see you all next year! ❤

Bookish Book Lover Tag

Hey all! Today I have a quick tag for you. I was tagged ages ago by Deborah over at The Page Dreamer, which I thank her heartily for. Hope you enjoy! 🙂

What book are you currently reading?

It’s a re-read! Five Glass Slippers by various authors/bloggers.

What’s the last book you finished?

The Word Changers by Ashlee Willis.

Favorite book you read this year?

Ooh, tough choice! I would probably say Illusionarium by Heather Dixon.

What genre have you read most this year?

Definitely fantasy! But there’s a fair amount of sci-fi/superhero-ish thrown in there too. 🙂

What genre have you read least this year?

Probably contemporary. Most of the books I read have at least a dash of the unbelievable in them. 😉

What genre do you want to read more of?

I would really like to get into steampunk a bit more. I read Illusionarium and ADORED it. I’ve scoured around a bit more and found a few others that look interesting, so they are now on my tbr-list.

How many books have you read this year, and what is your goal?

Goodreads tells me I’ve read 32 of 70 books. So…kind of behind… XD

What’s the last book you bought?

This may or may not be correct, but I believe it was the three fairytale collections put out by Rooglewood. Two of them are re-reads, and I’m considering putting reviews up for all three.

What book are you saving up to buy next?

I’m not sure honestly… XD I don’t usually ‘save up’ to buy books. I usually just buy what I can when I have the money. Libraries are my friends. 🙂

How many books did you check out last library visit?

Sadly, I think it was only two…*sniff sniff* And they weren’t even chapter books. They’re about movie production and animation, which is really interesting actually.

What’s a book you can’t wait to read?

So, so many! O_O But if I have to be particular (picky, picky…) I would choose Heartless by Marissa Meyer and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.

What’s a series you’d recommend to everyone?

I might say either Tales of Goldstone Wood (for clean readers) and/or The Lunar Chronicles (for those who can look past a bit of violence and language). 🙂

Who’s an author you’re hoping writes more?

Ooh, definitely Shannon Hale! She’s been under the radar for quite a bit (aside from her very young readers Princess in Black series). Please Mrs. Hale! Write some more riveting fantasy! 🙂

A few books you heart adores?

Illusionarium and Entwined by Heather Dixon, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, The Neverending Story by Michael Ende, the Tales of Goldstone Wood by Anne Elisabeth Stengl, Princess Academy and the Books of Bayern by Shannon Hale, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, and The Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo, to name a very few. 🙂

What series’ coming conclusion make you sad?

I’m drawing a blank here so I’m going to steal Deborah’s answer and say Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.

What books are on your wish-list?

There aren’t actually very many books that I would like to own. I usually like to get the book or first book of a series from the library first before investing in my own copies. Yep, total risk-taker here. XD But I do really want Crooked Kingdom, Heartless, A Branch of Silver, a Branch of Gold by Anne Elisabeth Stengl, and the other two Jackaby books by William Ritter. 🙂

That’s the tag! Thank you again for tagging me Deborah! And since I’m horrible at tagging people, consider yourself tagged if you’re reading this. 🙂 Thanks for reading! Oh, and you may or may not have noticed my new banner and background. I’m also working on a few fun graphics. Let me know what you think!

Until next time! ❤

The Fall Time Cozy Book Tag

Hey guys! You may or may not have noticed I had a slight hiatus this past week. It wasn’t intentional, I’ve just been trying to get my blogging schedule in order. 🙂

So here’s a little tag I’ve typed up for you. I know, I know, it’s not technically autumn, but this tag looked so fun!

Crunching Leaves // The world is full of color. Choose a book that has reds, oranges, and yellows on the cover.

Five Magic Spindles by various authors. I just bought it recently and I can’t wait to read! Maybe I’ll do a review… 🙂

Cozy Sweater // It’s finally cold enough to don warm cozy clothing. What book gives you the warm fuzzies?

I don’t read very many books that are…warm and fuzzy. XD I will say though I have pleasant memories reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo when I was younger.

Fall Storm // The wind is howling and the rain is pounding. Choose your favorite book OR genre that you like to read on a stormy day.

It really depends on my mood. Sometimes I like funny books that make me forget about the weather and other times I like reading action-packed, adventure stories. 🙂

Cool Crisp Air // What’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

I would really love to trade places with all my favorite characters. 🙂 But in particular, I would choose Cress from the Lunar Chronicles.

Hot Apple Cider // What under hyped book do you want to see become the next biggest, hottest thing?

Ooh, tough one…I might pick either Illusionarium by Heather Dixon, or Jackaby by William Ritter.

Coat, Scarves, and Mittens // The weather has turned cold and it’s time to cover up. What’s the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

Hmm…Sometimes if I’m reading a particularly…young book/series, it can get embarrassing (even though the books themselves are really good!) So I generally don’t bring those ones with me in public. XD

Pumpkin Spice // What’s your favorite fall time comfort food/foods?

ALL THE FOODS. *yum* More specific answer? Okay. I like apple crisp, pie, and cider. Pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Hot chocolate with marshmallows. And pumpkin spice everything! ^_^

That’s the tag! Hope you liked it! Feel free to do this tag too if you want! I’d love to see your answers! Until next time! ❤

By the Book Tag

Hello all! So, you may have noticed I didn’t post a CC on Saturday…I wasn’t feeling well, so I took a small break. But I’m back with a tag! I saw this on Deborah’s book blog a bit ago, so I thought I’d give it a whirl. 😉

What book is on your nightstand right now?

I actually am not currently reading anything right now. Shocking, right? XD

What was the last truly great book you read?

I’m going to go with Illusionarium by Heather Dixon…That was like in May, but seriously, IT’S SO GOOD. *hugs book*

If you could meet any writer – dead or alive – who would it be? And what would you want to know?

Ooh, tough dilemma! I would be really curious to meet Laura Ingalls Wilder, C.S. Lewis, Marissa Meyer, and/or Shannon Hale. I don’t even know what I would ask…I would probably be to busy staring in awe or something like that. 😉

i love you

What books might we be surprised to find on your shelves?

Um…*stares at shelves* Contemporary books? I don’t read a whole lot of that…but I do have some favorite contemporary series on my shelves, i.e. Summerhill Secrets by Beverly Lewis and the Real Life series by Nancy Rue.

How do you organize your personal library?

Mostly alphabetical by author’s last name. But the taller books that don’t fit on some of my shelves get organized differently. Plus I have a section for older books that my Mom and Grandmas gave me…

Planning can get so chaotic! When planning an event, booking a venue can be the most stressful... we're here for you.:

What book have you always meant to read and haven’t gotten around to it?

So, so, so, many…too many…I can think of many sitting on my shelves, on my GR tbr-list, at the library…HELP.

Anything you feel embarrassed never to have read?

I wouldn’t say embarrassed, but I feel kind of left out when everyone’s read Harry Potter, Divergent, or The Hunger Games… *shrugs* I can deal with it…

Disappointing, overrated, just not good: what book did you feel you are supposed to like but didn’t?

The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas comes to mind. I really wanted to like them too. But it just didn’t work for me. 😦 I found Celaena slightly annoying, and I thought the pacing was a bit strange.

Do you remember the last book you put down without finishing?

I don’t usually do this very often, but I believe the last one I put down was Dorothy must Die by Danielle Paige. It had an interesting premise, but ultimately, it was to icky for me.

What kind of stories are you drawn to? Any you stay clear of?

Of course, fantasy is one of my most favorite genres. 🙂 But I’ve also found I enjoy retellings, steampunk, and a little sci-fi.

<3 love it:

If you could require the president to read one book, what would it be?

The Bible is always a good place to start. 🙂 Also, I agree with Deborah, our Constitution would be a good choice too. 😉

What do you plan to read next?

Twinepathy by C.B. Cook is next in line on the tbr-list, and I’m super stoked! ^_^

That’s the tag! If you feel so inclined to do this tag, I heartily give you permission. 😉 Hope you enjoyed! Until next time! ❤

Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

Hello all you bloggers! Well, it appears that we’ve come to the mid-year marker already! How even?! But anyway, I was tagged by the lovely Miss Deborah over at The Page Dreamer, so thank you so much! I’m a little late to the party, but oh well. It’s still July, right?

I’ve read 25 books out of my 70 books goal, which I’m pretty okay with…My Goodreads challenge tells me I’m 13 books behind schedule, but I guess I can learn to live with that…

How can you ask of me such a question?! I’ve actually loved all the books I’ve read so far, so…I guess I will go with my top 5: Heartless by Anne Elisabeth Stengl, Illusionarium by Heather Dixon, Jackaby by William Ritter, Paper Crowns by Mirriam Neal, and The Prisoner of Cell 25 by Richard Paul Evans. ^_^

The Prisoner of Cell 25 by Richard Paul EvansPaper Crowns by Mirriam NealJackaby by William RitterIllusionarium by Heather DixonHeartless by Anne Elisabeth Stengl

The next three books after Heartless, but Moonblood in particular, because LIONHEART MY PRECIOUS. *flails*

Moonblood by Anne Elisabeth Stengl

Blood Ties by Hazel B. West sounds fabulous, but also Passenger by Alexandra Bracken and Twinepathy by C.B. Cook.

Twinepathy (IDIA #1)Passenger (Passenger, #1)Blood Ties (Modern Tales of Na Fianna #1)

I’m going to have to go with Deborah and say Crooked Kingdoms. KAZ NEEDS INEJ WHY DOES NOBODY SEE THIS. I’m also super excited for Heartless by Marissa Meyer, which is a kind of Alice in Wonderland retelling so…yes, of course.

Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2)Heartless

I would definitely have to say Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It had a really cool premise. I mean, a book in files, text messages, and documents? Yes please! But, unfortunately, it wasn’t for me. There was a lot of swearing, which I didn’t like, and it was just flat out crazy. Which normally, I like, but…

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman

I would say The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. I went into it thinking it would be just another middle-grade book, but I was delightfully surprised. ^_^ I really want to read the next books now!

The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart

Ooh, I’m definitely going with Anne Elisabeth Stengl! Her writing style is so beautiful and easy to read and I can just slip into and not come out for a while. 🙂 The Tales of Goldstone Wood are a new favorite! ❤

Heartless by Anne Elisabeth StenglVeiled Rose by Anne Elisabeth StenglMoonblood by Anne Elisabeth StenglStarflower by Anne Elisabeth Stengl

Tough one…I have a lot! I totally ship Abigail and Charlie from Jackaby. *squirms in delight* Also Hal and Ginny from Paper Crowns, and Lockwood and Anna (EVEN THOUGH IT’S SO SAD 😦 )

Jackaby by William RitterPaper Crowns by Mirriam NealIllusionarium by Heather Dixon

As for crushes…well, I think Azrael from Paper Crowns, Jackaby from…Jackaby, Jonathan and Lockwood from Illusionarium, and Lionheart from The Tales of Goldstone Wood are all fabulous. ❤ (Oh, and I just put a picture of Heartless down to signify TToGW series. I didn’t particularly like him in Heartless…)

Paper Crowns by Mirriam NealJackaby by William RitterIllusionarium by Heather DixonHeartless by Anne Elisabeth Stengl

SO HARD! I have sooooo many! But, since I don’t want this post to be a mile long list, I’ll settle on saying Jacin (even though we meet him in Cress) and Winter from The Lunar Chronicles. They’re so adorable!! ^_^

Winter by Marissa Meyer

Hmm…I  don’t cry to easily when I’m reading, even in super intense parts. But…I did come close to crying during Moonblood. ;(

Moonblood by Anne Elisabeth Stengl

ALL THE BOOKS! But to be more specific…Winter really did make me super happy. Especially the ending… 😀

 Winter by Marissa Meyer

Gosh, I don’t know if I’ve seen any this year…*wracks brain* Yeah, I got nothing. But I really want to see The BFG, if that counts?

The BFG (2016) Poster

Ooh, let’s see… Here are a few that I am pretty good with:

Probably Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. I mean LOOK AT THE PRETTY COVER. I kind of just bought it to stare at the cover…*guilty face* But I had been eyeing it for a while, so it’s okay, right?

Passenger (Passenger, #1)

TOO MANY. That’s my answer. I’ll list some: The Word Changers by Ashlee Willis, Storm Siren by Mary Weber, King’s Warrior by Jenelle Schmidt, Twinepathy by C.B. Cook, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Secrets of Valhalla by Jasmine Richards, The Body Electric by Beth Revis, Howl’s Moving Castle and Archer’s Goon by Dianna Wynne Jones, Entwined by Heather Dixon, Dream Treaders by Wayne Thomas Batson, and Five Magic Spindles by various authors. Wow, that’s more than some, plus this is only a small portion of my TBR pile, so…that’s scary… XD

Totally Should’ve…Tag

Hey guys!

So, I’ve been thinking about posting lately, and I’ve set a goal for myself of posting twice a week. Maybe more, maybe less. But that’s my goal.

Anywho, I saw this tag as a Youtube video and it looked so fun I just had to try it! Basically, I’ll name a book I think totally should’ve…

Gotten a sequel – The Wish by Gail Carson Levine

Not a very well known book, but I think it deserves a sequel. This book didn’t really seem like a Gail Carson Levine book, if you’ve read her books, you’ll know, but it was still very enjoyable. Yet short. Which is precisely why I think there should be a sequel, explaining things a bit more.

Had a spin-off series – The Neverending Story by Michael Ende

I think this would a make for a super awesome series. A thick series, but an awesome one nonetheless. And, I mean, hello?! All the stories ‘for another time’? I’m so game for that! 🙂

(An author who totally should) Write more books – Shannon Hale

Where are you Shannon? I need more awesome characters! And fantastical action and romance! Maybe just some short stories? A novella? I can’t live on Princess in Black alone! O_o

(A character who totally should’ve) Ended up with someone else – Meira from Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

I feel like…I don’t know, my feelings are so mixed. I’ve only read the first book so far, so, I’ll have to see, but my feelings currently: On the one hand, I like Theron a lot, ’cause he’s great and all, but then Mather, and I just…Can’t she choose both? I think I’m kind of secretly rooting for Mather deep down though. It’s complicated. 😛

Ended differently – Dragons of Darkness by Antonia Michaelis

This was a great story, don’t get me wrong…well, it was an odd story and was kind of weird at times, but I still liked it enough to care about the ending. And I must say, I did not care for that ending. Sure, everything was happy and Jumar and stuff, but I feel like so much more could’ve been explained. And…Niya. I mean…yeah, I don’t know. Can we have a rewrite?

Had a movie – The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo

I am a child at heart, so naturally, I absolutely adore this book. It’s just so adorable and ends so beautifully and it would just be so great to see it on the big screen! And hey, if DiCamillo can get movie deals on her other books, why not this one?

Had a movie franchise – The Looking-Glass Wars by Frank Beddor

I feel like these books were really just written to be movies. Almost like a screenplay. So, obviously this would be an awesome movie franchise. All the action and adventure and the special effects can you imagine?! Though, I might just watch it for Hatter… ’cause, you know, Hatter. 🙂

Had a TV show – The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Can I just say, this would be the most EPIC TV show ever to have been created if such a thing were to happen? Provided they actually stuck to the story, (which I would hope they would do to any book-to-movie adaptation). The characters! Creswell! PLEASE! Can this be a thing?

Had only one point of view – ?

I actually really like books with multiple POVs, so I can’t really say. It gives everything another angle, especially if you get to read the villain’s POV. 😛

Have a cover change – ?

I hate it when books change their covers! Especially in the middle of the series. Looking at you Princess Academy. Speaking of which…

Kept the original covers – Princess Academy by Shannon Hale

Insert rant: I mean, why?! It is so frustrating! From reader to cover designers, please, don’t change covers in the middle of series! My precious OCD… How am I supposed to keep it in check if the covers are wrong! End rant 😛

Stopped at book one – Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George

It’s sad. The first book was amazing and hilarious and just plain awesome. But then…I don’t know, it went downhill for me. I’ve still been trying to read the rest, but…? :\

Well, that was the tag! I hope you enjoyed and now, to tag some people!

I tag… Deb @ The Road of a Writer | CB @ The World of The Writer | Madi @ The Book Owl

Here’s hoping you’re having a great day! ❤

Christmas-y Tag

Hey Bloggers!

I know what you’re thinking…Really Madeline? Another tag?

But yes. Tags + me = uncontrollable urge 😀

I was tagged by the wonderful Deborah over at The Road of a Writer

Let us begin!

What is your favorite Christmas treat?

My Mom always gets these amazing little Petit Fours from Swiss Colony…Yum.

Are there any special traditions that your family has to celebrate Christmas?

We enjoy putting up a tree…and every Christmas Eve, we have our own little snacky dinner and we open the presents we made for each other. That’s always fun. 🙂

How do you normally celebrate Christmas?

Is that even a question?

Do you enjoy getting presents for your friends and family? Do you buy your gifts or go the homemade route?

I love giving presents! 😀 We buy each other gifts, but we also make each other gifts too, (see above).

Is it cold where you live? Have you ever had a white Christmas?

It is FREEZING where I live. Minnesota will do that… We always have white Christmases. But, funnily enough, we haven’t gotten much snow this year! We’re expecting it though. 😛

What’s on your Christmas list this year?

Well, lets see…books, first of all…then maybe some more books, and then top it off with some books. 😀

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

I honestly couldn’t choose. I love Carol of the Bells, all versions, just give them all to me! Little Drummer Boy, (Go Fish does an awesome version), God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, What Child is This, the list could go on and on… ❤

What is your favourite Christmas memory?

I’ll have to agree with Deborah, all the memories just seem to mesh together. I love all the Christmases! 🙂

What does your Christmas Tree look like?

121215 028

What are you reading in December? (Anything festive?)

I’m not actually reading anything festive. I’m re-reading the Lunar Chronicles, and I’m on Cress. Hey, the next book is Winter! 😀 Does that count?

Are you an organized little elf or are you still shopping/preparing on Christmas Eve?

I’m still working on my gifts, but I’m pretty sure I’ll finish in time. 😉 I’m usually finished with my gifts in, like, November, but… That’s evidently not happening this year. XD

How early do you start to get into the Christmas spirit?

Well, I’m usually pumped at the very least before Thanksgiving. XD I know, I know… But I think I start getting really excited by the beginning of December.

Do you make any Christmas crafts? Decorations? Send physical Christmas cards?

I’m really not that type of person…Me and my family occasionally send out a Christmas card, but we haven’t been these past few Christmases… :/ But I hoping we will this year!

What’s the menu for Christmas Day?!

Oh boy! Well, we usually are too excited to eat breakfast, so we kind of have this brunch-type thing, then go to my grandparents and have a big Christmas dinner.

What makes it FEEL like Christmas for you? (Weather, specific tradition, food, smell, person, etc.?)

The snow, food, presents, family, music, everything, really! 😀

Do you have relatives coming? Excited? Nervous?

No relatives coming, but we’re going to visit a bunch!

What famous Christmas character do you most identify with? (Scrooge, Elf, Tiny Tim, the Grinch, Santa, etc.)

Well, I just took a test, (Playbuzz), and I got Buddy the Elf! XD I’m good with that! 😀

If you were to start a new Christmas tradition, what would it be?

I’m not sure…If me and my family did do something, it would be memorable, that’s for sure. 🙂

What Christmas movies do you like to watch this time of year or what’s your favorite?

I love all the old, stop-motion type ones, like Rudolph, Year Without a Santa Claus, etc, but I also love the new ones too, like Elf (Possibly my favorite XD ), The Santa Claus, Home Alone, Arthur Christmas, The Polar Express, shall I go on? 🙂

What’s your favorite Christmasy book or book with a favorite Christmasy part?

I absolutely love The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! And, of course, the true story in the Bible. ❤

Thank you, Deb, for tagging me, it was so fun answering these questions!

Now, to tag some peoples:

CB @ The World of a Writer, Madi @ The Book Owl, Raychel @ Raychel Rose, and Megan @ A Barefoot Gal

If you feel like doing this tag, feel free!

I’d also like to add a bonus question!

○ What’s the best Christmas gift you’ve ever gotten?

I should have some new posts up soon, so stay tuned! 😉
