The Imprint Trilogy + Erase (NaNoWriMo 2016)

Hey guys! Okay, so I thought it high time to finally delve a little deeper into what I’m actually writing. And since I wanted to share a bit about Erase, my NaNo novel this year, and it being the last book in the trilogy, I kinda have to bring the others in.

This story…Oh my word, this story.

It’s consumed me for the better part of nearly two years, but I don’t care because I love it so very muchly. 🙂 I got the idea back when I was like nine or ten, but it’s been a persistent little bugger. So finally, after trying to begin it several times, (without an outline, which I believe was a huge mistake for me), I finally wrote an outline and in the summer of 2015, I wrote Imprint during JuNoWriMo.

It was so. much. FUN. I found that I really like the challenge of finishing it in a month, (translation, I needed motivation to write otherwise I just…wouldn’t.) It was my first experience actually writing. I had, of course, started about a bajillion stories before, but I’d never finished them until now. I felt professional, basically.

About the actual story…I’m terrible at blurb type things, so I’ll just paraphrase a bit.

Paige lives with her family in Fallcoast, a pleasant little town in Minnesota. She’s never wished for anything more.

But lately, she’s been having strange dreams. And one day when a cashier at the grocery store attacks her, she knows something is up.

That very night, Paige is transported to a mystical world called Nore, where she has been cast as the main character of a fairytale.

Enlisting the help of her friend Markus, she is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery. And she soon finds herself entangled in an evil scheme she’d only dreamt possible.

And here’s snippets. Because…why not?

“Um…” he said examining the box. “You…you wouldn’t want to help me…would you? I just need you to come in the back for a minute.” He seemed to hold his breath.

Paige noticed she was holding her breath too. “Um…I’m sorry, but…but I shouldn’t go places with strangers.”

The man blew out a relieved breath and nodded like he was expecting her to say that.

“That is a very good rule,” he said still nodding.

Paige painted on a smile, nodding.

“Yeah…But I’m gonna need you to come with me anyway.”

“Why are you here? It doesn’t make sense…”

“But it makes sense that you’re here? I don’t think so!” Paige snapped.

Markus held his hands up defensively. “Hey, I wasn’t saying it did!”

“You’re acting really weird!”

“Me? You just slapped me!”

“I said I’m stressed out!”

“Fine!” Markus said, getting up from the bed. “We’re both weird. Whatever!”

Markus stood in the doorway, dripping with ink. “Didn’t know how much more of this I could take,” he replied with a weak smile. He locked the door behind him, saturating the knob in ink.

“You look…”

“Wet? I could say the same for you,” he rubbed his arms up and down, in the process, slathering himself in ink.

A little about the characters maybe? As they’re my favorite part of this story. 🙂

  • Paige ~ Back when I first got the idea for this story, I had a really hard time with the characters, so my main character was essentially…me. Well, that was creative… But I decided I needed to change that (thankfully…I don’t think anyone would want to read an entire story with me as the MC). She still has some aspects of me, but I made sure she wasn’t a Mary Jane. And she’s just plain awesome. 😉
  • Markus ~ Markus’ name changed a lot during this story. First it was James, then it was Write, and finally, we ended up with Markus, which I think suits him nicely. He’s the humorous one of the duo and I sometimes take inspiration from my brother and use it as material. But he’s also the really sweet and sensitive type. There may or may not be some crushing going on between him and Paige… ❤
  • Celthic ~ During the beginning stages of the story, Celthic wasn’t even going to be a huge part of the story. Just another henchman for the bad guy, (and he was actually originally a character for a different story.) Well, that’s not how things went, and now he’s one of the major characters, and I’m so glad of that. He’s snarky, stubborn, and an all-around joy to write. (Possibly because I’m snarky and stubborn…Just possibly…)
  • Zyke ~ Another henchman gone major character. I apparently really like fleshing any and every single character in my stories, so…That kinda makes for a larger cast, but that can be fun, right? 😉 He’s much like Celthic in ways, but then not at all in others. Celthic is the quiet, introverted type, while Zyke…He’s quite the opposite. But he is stubborn, that’s one thing that remains the same between them…
  • Drilidric ~ Okay, so this character kinda just crept into the story without me even noticing. Like for real. I was writing a prologue and it was just BAM. There he is. And that is a very good thing, because he is an AWESOME character. Like a strange mix of Sherlock and Iron Man… Yeah, it’s hard to explain, but trust me, he’s great. Maybe I’ll have a CC post about him…

This book is where things start picking up. After the…ahem, events…that took place at the end of the last book, things got a…crazy? Is that even the word I mean? I don’t know. But I tell you, this book is for real the problem child out of the three. I started it in my first attempt at NaNo, and I…didn’t do so hot. But, I was well prepared when JuNo rolled around with nearly 14,000 words ahead of my goal. And that went well. I didn’t finish it, but I’m pretty good with the progress I’ve made so far.

I suppose I can try at another blurb thingie…

Since her incident in Nore, Paige has been carrying a few too many loads than she should.

But with her friend in danger, having to go to public school, and trying to handle all this magic stuff, can she be blamed?

And when good and evil seem to mesh together, Paige must get the help of a new friend, along with some old pals, to stop the evil from ravaging her home.

And some snippets…because…snippets.

“You’re the boy,” Jack said hefting his sword up into the air, “Where’s the girl?”

Markus ignored him. “May I ask why you’re here? And what of the beanstalk?”

Jack barred his teeth. “Kaidan, he’s being offensive, attack!”

Markus stumbled back. “Whoa, wait, what?”

Celthic glared. “I trust them more than anyone else right now, seeing as how it’s you who’s keeping me locked up in here.”

“Following orders,” Zyke replied.

“Following orders?” Celthic was raising his voice now, but he didn’t care. “So following orders means betraying your friends?”

Zyke gritted his teeth. “Now you’re just trying to mess around in my mind!”

Celthic could’ve laughed. “Or, I don’t know, maybe that’s a little cricket trying to tell you something?”

“Oh, shut up!” Zyke snarled.

“Markus, this is Vasi. He’s from Nore. In fact, he’s a main character.”

Vasi nodded. “I’m the Pied Piper? I think?” He held out his hand for Markus to shake.

Markus took it, but not without a hint of worry. “And why are you here?”

“I could ask you the same question young man.”

Markus bit his lip shut.

We’re introduced to a few new characters, most of which I’ve interviewed, but here’s a bit of background.

  • Vasi ~ Fairytale characters weren’t originally going to be major characters in the story, but that changed once I started writing Rewrite. Vasi is one of these examples. And the snippet above provides that he is actually the Pied Piper. He’s a super nice guy, and he just wants things to be right. But because of problems in Nore, that’s not something that’s possible right now.
  • Tizini ~ Oh Tizini… XD If you remember from the CC post I did with him, you’ll know that he has a bit of an attitude…to say the least. Nonetheless, these characters tend to the be the most fun to write (for me at least…is that saying something…?) And of course Tizini is no exception. I will say, he softens up quite a bit as the story progresses. 🙂
  • Saymeth ~ Saymeth was a troubling character to come up with. I felt he was lacking in creativity when he first appeared in the story, so I’ve definitely tried to flesh him out a bit. If you’ll remember the interview, I believe he stated he was a ‘telepathic wolf anthromorph’ or some such thing. Also, he has silver eyes. He’s a huge softie though…quite the opposite of Tizini. XD
  • Koki ~ Koki is the yin to Saymeth’s yang. She’s the quiet type of girl that looks like she wants to hurt you. And probably does. Which is why, of course, I had to put her and Saymeth together. I really love the ‘opposites attract’ troupe. But Koki herself is a really fun character to write because she comes off as very cold and cruel, yet that’s not who she is. It’s a complicated thing which makes her really interesting to write. 🙂

Now, finally, we can get to the actual novel I’m writing…*drum roll*

Ta-da! I’m actually feeling really daunted by the task of this book. I mean, it has to resolve every problem and be believable…*nervousness* But outlining has been super fun so far, and since I only have FIVE DAYS LEFT GUYS I’m hoping to finish it in time.

Watch me attempt a blurb for a third time…

Paige’s worst fear has come about. She has found herself trapped in Nore!

And not only that, but she’s being hunted viciously on all sides by the evil ruler Zedidiah, who will stop at nothing to see her dead.

As she makes her way through Nore, she comes across many new friends, as well as enemies.

But Paige is not herself. As the wizard has finally Rewritten all of Fanastasia, he will now stop at nothing to see Paige Rewritten herself.

How can Paige and her friends end Zedidiah’s reign and save all of Nore? The answer is more complicated then you would think…

Not to bad…hopefully. XD Writing blurbs is hard! But I thinks this gives a pretty good general idea.

Now, a few new characters. I don’t know much about their personalities yet, but I bet I can describe them all somewhat with three words.

  • Pyrallis ~ Friendly, independent, and curious.
  • Fasaria ~ Inventive, condescending, and withdrawn.
  • Prince O ~ Charismatic, argumentative, and a quick-thinker.
  • Queen Kako ~ Artistic, competitive, and sensitive.

I’m both excited and nervous to begin this NaNo season, but I hope to remember that the most important thing is to have fun! If you’re participating in NaNoWriMo, I will cheer you on heartily! And if you would like to be buddies with me, you can follow this link to my profile page.

So, are you participating in NaNo? And if you are, what are you writing? Let me know down below! ❤

Ten Characters I’d Name My Children or Pets After // Top Ten Tuesdays

Hello all! Just a quick post today, as I’m madly trying to finish somewhat of an outline before NaNo…So, it’s been fun around here. XD I probably won’t be posting much during November, except for little mini updates and possibly snippets, so I have a couple more posts set for October. 🙂 And when I saw this Tuesday’s topic over at The Broke and the Bookish, I just had to give it a try! I LOVE names of all shapes and sizes! So without further ado, let us begin!

I’m going to do half and half, five names for children and five for pets. Children first!

I. Jonathan

Illusionarium is possibly the best book I’ve read so far this year, and I must pay it justice because Jonathan is great. Plain and simple.

II. Wylan

I’m currently reading Crooked Kingdoms, and I really think Wylan is the nicest kid ever. So I wouldn’t mind having my son named after him. 🙂

III. Jackaby

Okay, so maybe this one is a little strange, but Jackaby is brilliant and fabulous and needs to be named after. Besides, we could always just call him Jack, right?

IV. Thorne

I just finished Stars Above. OH MY STARS. *cries forever* But the last story was totally worth it. 🙂 And Thorne is totally the best guy character out of the series, at least in my opinion. Sure, he’s a bit cocky, but he’s also lovable and hilarious. ❤

V. Eanrin

Maybe this one’s a stretch, but I LOVE EANRIN SO MUCH OKAY. I’m all for giving him the nickname of Ean. That’s a pretty common name, though the spelling is different. But I DON’T CARE. ❤

Um…I’m just now noticing they’re all guy names…But oh well. XD Now, on to pets!

VI. Lionheart

I could totally picture this being the name of a giant fluffy dog that’s super cuddly and adorable. I don’t know if I could do with a giant dog in the house, but it’d still be a great name. 😉

VII. Cress

Finally, a girl’s name! XD Cress is one of my favorite characters, so it only makes sense. Plus it’s just a really pretty name and it’s short for Crescent. Then I could call her Crescent Roll. XD

VIII. Blaze

This one will be pretty obvious if you know about Twinepathy and my obsession with one of the characters. Ahem, Blaze, to be exact  And you know, if I ever got that dragon I’ve been considering, it would be the perfect name. 😉

IX. Lockwood

DIDN’T SEE THAT ONE COMING I’LL BET. XD I can just imagine a German shepherd or some such big, gruff dog with this name. And then on the inside he’s a sweet little softy. 😀

X. Azrael

Paper Crowns is SO WONDERFUL, and Azrael is possibly the best character of ever. There is no question as to why this name should be chosen. *nods*

There you are! The names of all my children and pets! Somehow, there was only one girl in the mix…Don’t know how that happened… Hope you enjoyed!

Five Enchanted Roses // A Review

Books and Such (1)

Hey guys! I just finished this fabulous book, so I thought I would share a review! I’ve marked the spoilers in white text, as I did with my previous review. 🙂

ESPRIT DE LA ROSE by Kaycee Browning
Initial Response

To steal from the Fee is to suffer their wrath! So Cecilia learns when these fabled beings charge her father with the theft of a certain mirror and sentence him to torment. But when she is taken as substitute, Cecilia discovers that the punishment meted out by the Fee is far stranger than she could ever have imagined. Trapped aboard a ghost ship with a crew of condemned souls and aided only by charismatic Captain Pepin, can this pirate’s daughter unlock the secret to the Fee’s dark omens?

High Lights
– THE ENTIRE THING. Not even joking.
– THE CHARACTERS. Cecilia, Pepin, William, Frank, Curly, JUST YES.
– THE WIT. There is just so much wonderful wit and sarcasm and it pleases me greatly.
– The writing style is beautiful too! I found it very easy to just get lost, turning and turning page after page… 🙂
– THE IDEA. Beauty and the Beast + pirates + magic = YES YES YES.
– Also, yes to all the little references to the movie and original tale. They made me dance a little. Just a little. 😉

Low Lights
– Um…None? Seriously. None.
– Well…If this even counts for anything (which it doesn’t really) I think when I read this for the first time (when I was younger) I was a little scared of some of the monsters…Totally minor thing though.

I ADORE THIS STORY OKAY. It’s just so fun and wonderful and AWESOME. Also…THAT ENDING IS NOT OKAY I NEED MORE. Ahem…ah, yeah. So. There’s that. BUT SERIOUSLY THIS STORY IS YES.

WITHER by Savannah Jezowski
Initial Response
*stares intensely at the wall* What. Epic-ness. Just. Happened.

As penalty for the merchant’s theft of a single rose, the Beast of Briarstone Abbey demands his youngest daughter, sweet and innocent Sookie. But Lilybet Haverly will never allow her sister to face such a dreadful fate! Armed only with a butcher knife and her own determination, Bet climbs the wall and plunges into the Neverway, where the dead walk and ghouls hunt human flesh. She will find this Briarstone Abbey—and the Beast who lives there—whatever the cost.

High Lights
– Bet is such a great main character! She’s stubborn, witty, and just plain awesome. 🙂
– CORWIN IS…You know, I just don’t really have words. Just, read the story and you will understand his wondrousness.
– Quarrel is adorable for being a giant, monster dog thing. Just sayin’.
– Also the Lonely are quite fun…I’m intensely curious about their background…
– Also… THE ABBEY IS ALIVE. 😀 How wonderful is that?! AND IT AND CORWIN SHARE A CONNECTION AND I JUST… *sighs* It’s great. Really.
– Victor. That’s all you need to know. I mean, he’s not even really in the story…but I’m still  vastly curious about him… Ahem, THE EPILOGUE.

Low Lights
– Some of the fight scenes were a bit scary. But they weren’t overly graphic or gory, which I appreciated muchly.
– Nothing else I can think of presently. 🙂

In closing, this is a fantabulous story with a few scary scenes that had me turning pages furiously. IT’S SO GRIPPING. Back, when I had first read this collection, I had skipped this story entirely. That was a mistake on my part! And also…is there a planned sequel/novella type thing? BECAUSE I NEED ONE.

STONE CURSE by Jenelle Schmidt
Initial Response
I. LOVE. IT. SO. MUCH. *hugs story to death*

Years ago a terrible curse swept over the revelers at Thorndale Castle, turning them to stone and transforming Prince Barend himself into a hideous beast. But Karyna, a former lady-in-waiting, will not abandon either her father, who stands in the throne room among the other statues, or the prince. Indeed, she sets out alone on a dangerous quest to find the one responsible for this dreadful spell. If she can but discover the reason why the stone curse was cast, perhaps she can also discover the solution.

High Lights
– I really liked Karyna, I though she was really believable and likable, and I sympathized with her so, so much.
– The magic in this story is phenomenal. It was really well explained and I found simply fascinating.
– Barend is just great. Yep.
– RITTER. Where do I even begin? HE’S GREAT.
– The writing style is so easy and flows really nicely. I had wonderful images of scenes playing out in my head as I read. 🙂
– Also, kind of random, but there was this one scene where… SUITS OF ARMOR ARE ATTACKING KARYNA AND RITTER. I just thought that was totally epic.
– The ending!! … At first, I wasn’t sure how I liked Ritter ending up with Bellenya…But it’s totally cute and I love them together now. ❤ Plus, Karyna and Barend are together, and that makes me so happy. 😀

Low Lights
– I…really can’t think of any. This story is just flat-out amazing! 😉

YOU JUST NEED TO READ IT OKAY. It’s such a funny, riveting story and I was very, very sad to see it come to an end. I really need to read some of Jenelle’s other books… 😀

Initial Response
WHAT. Okay, okay, but seriously THAT WAS INSANE. In a good way, of course.

Maor has determined to take her as his third wife, by force if necessary. But Rosara would rather risk her life alone in the jungle than submit to any man’s brutality. When a beautiful jaguar tells her that it knows where to find one of the karawara, she resolves to seek out this jungle spirit and request its aid. The jaguar warns Rosara, however, that gifts from the karawara are never without a price…

High Lights
– I just really love Tupa. This needs to be said. ❤
– Also, I DISLIKE MAOR SO MUCH OMGOODNESS…*ahem* So yes, there’s that. What I mean to say, is that his villainous character was done very well.
– I’m really at a loss for words…
– Rosara is really great, and I’m ever so glad… her and Tupa are together. *smiles like a maniac*
– Jaguars are pretty. That is all. ❤
– The writing style is really fast-paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I was stressed out the whole time I was reading…In a good way. 🙂

Low Lights
– A few bits of the story were a little graphic, but nothing horrible. It only added to the suspense.
– … THE ENDING. Like, okay, I’m super glad Rosara didn’t die and her and Tupa are together and it’s GREAT. But seriously, what about Rosara’s village? Maor is still there! Hello?! And her father isn’t chief anymore, which makes me sad because he’s great. SOME RESOLUTION PLEASE.
– Much of the story centers around the karawara, which are jungle spirits…I was a little wary at first that things would get strange, but it was totally fine.

In short, this story is RIVETING. It’s a very good one, and the idea is very original. Beauty and the Beast + jungle = YES. Definitely a great story! Though there are a few things that put me off a bit, I still really enjoyed.

THE WULVER’S ROSE by Hayden Wand
Initial Response

A life is a high price to pay for stealing a rose. Nevertheless, Bonnie honors her father’s agreement and travels to the remote, ruinous castle wherein dwells the legendary creature known as a wulver—half man, half wolf. Though he is monstrous to behold, this beast is oddly gentle, tenderly caring for his beautiful rosebush, which blooms out of season. Is there more to the wulver than meets the eye? Is he somehow connected to the frightened child who visits Bonnie in her dreams?

High Lights
– Bonnie is just so sweet. So sweet.
– Calum is just GREAT… and I totally wouldn’t care about those scars if I were Abigail…just sayin’… XD
– LAUCHLAN. *cries an ocean*
– I really appreciate how tight knit and loving Bonnie’s family is. It makes me so happy to see that, because I feel like families never get along in books… 🙂
– The romance is INCREDIBLY well-written and believable! No insta-love here!
– Also, I feel like Sorcha is me half of the time… XD

Low Lights
– MORAG IS HORRIBLE. But, you know, you kinda love to hate her…?
– … I’m kind of curious as to how old Lauchlan actually is… ’cause Bonnie’s only like eighteen or nineteen…And he has a child. I’m not saying I don’t think they’re an adorable couple, just…wondering…

THIS IS SO CUTE GUYS. It’s possibly the story that most closely follows the original, out of this collection. But there’s still many unique twists that were really enjoyable. 🙂 I’d also say it’s the most romantic out of these stories… Which, I am totally good with! XD ❤

❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ out of ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

I’M IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK GUYS. Seriously, why did it have to end? WHY?! But no worries, I suppose. Bring on Five Magic Spindles! 😀

There’s my review! I hope you enjoyed, and comment below if you’ve read this wonderful collection!

Strangest Browser Searches {September Edition}

Hey guys! So, this post is going to be a little different today… I was trying to come up with a blog post idea, when I got the sudden impulse to look at my search history… Oh dear… XD

Nonetheless, I thought it would be great for a laugh, and maybe even a touch of inspiration. I’ve put them into categories, Innocent, Getting Stranger, and What Even. Let me know if you like this kind of post and I might make into a monthly thing, or maybe even a tag…?

fantasy items in literature

Okay, so, I’m a writer and I do this kind of stuff for research. You would think there would just be a list of magical items from literature, right? Well, after a bit, I kinda just gave up hope. Apparently, Google thinks I mean Final Fantasy items… So I compiled my own list off the top of my head instead. XD

who is the girl in rogue one

A legitimate question. I had no idea what her name was until I looked it up. Do they say it in the trailer? I don’t know… *shrugs*

the old Barbie site

So maybe this one is kind of…embarrassing. But. I seriously loved that site as a kid. You could go in all the different rooms of Barbie’s house and play games. Good times. But, unfortunately, I can’t find a way to play any of the old games or look at the old site! *sniff*

candy shops with white chocolate

You would be surprised to find that there is little to no white chocolate when it comes to candy bars. This is a tragedy and must be addressed, obviously.

word for unreactive expression

This was one of those times where I was pretty sleep deprived, and therefore couldn’t think. I mean, there’s got to be a word for it… Oh yeah, impassive. *shakes head*

A little-known fruit I did a report on. Nothing exciting here.

Getting Stranger…

jobs that don’t pay well

I’m a writer. Most Some of my characters are poor, and I need to know these things. Is it so wrong?

book in which if something is written it happens

Not the best wording ever, but I’m sure you’ve heard of books that if written in can make certain things happen. I wanted to know if it was a single book in and of itself or if it’s just an idea. Google doesn’t know what I’m talking about, that remains to be seen.

websites that sell futuristic tech

I have a few book ideas that take place in the future, and I was curious to see what’s already been developed and what hasn’t. The results are scary… But good writing material!

what do you dislike about infjs

I, being an INFJ, am always trying to improve on myself. And its not like I’m going to ask my real-life friends what they think of me. That’s where the internet comes in. XD Results are sparse, (which is a…good thing?) but evidently INFJs can be too harsh on themselves (which I agree with immensely, personally), which in turn upsets other people.

draw a stickman

Just, follow this link. It’s very muchly fun. 🙂

What Even

kuduo pot

So I read this book, The Grimm Legacy, by Polly Shulman, and it has something called a kuduo pot in it. It’s a pot that takes away something important to you, say, your sense of direction, in exchange for something else (from the repository in the book, usually). How cool is that? I mean, it’s not, good or fair maybe, but still…And I kinda wanted to use that idea. So I went to look up what a kuduo pot actually was…and got nothing. It was made up by the author. *applause for her* But since I’m not an idea thief…well, there goes that idea.

how to turn poptropican back into person when she is a pig

Oh my, does this ever need some explaining… XD If you’ve never heard of Poptropica, it’s a cute little online game where you can create a little person, go on quests, and play with your friends. It’s quite fun. Well, me and my siblings were playing one day, and somehow, I managed to turn my little sisters’ person into a pixelated pig. Um…oops. XD And since I had no idea how to turn her back, this search was needed.

Um…what? Yeah, I don’t know either. I think one day I was trying to read a note my Mom had written…And I couldn’t decipher it. (Sorry Mom! XD ) But I don’t really know why looking it up would’ve helped. Because it didn’t.

abilities snakes have

This, in and of itself, is not strange. The reasoning behind it, however…is another story. XD So, a certain character in my Imprint series, may or may not become a snake-like monster at one point…*feels incredulous looks being pressed at me* Yeah…so.

…There you are. Some of my strangest browser searches this past month. What about you? As a writer, reader, or anybody, do you look up weird stuff? Please tell me I’m not alone… XD Also, do you think this could be a tag somehow? I would love any ideas you have!

Until next time! ❤
