The Behind the Scenes Writer’s Tag

I’ve been tagged by the lovely Madi at TheBookOwl! Thanks again! ❤

Let the tag commence!

Is there a certain snack you like to eat while writing?

I don’t usually eat while I write because I love food too much. It distracts me. XD

When do you normally write?

Whenever I possibly can!

Where do you write?

Up in my room at my desk. It’s usually where I get the most done. Mostly…

How often do you write a new novel?

This question obviously meant, how often do you start a new novel. Right…? For me, I had several months in between Imprint and Rewrite. I was revising Imprint for that period, and I didn’t even start on outlining Rewrite until only about a month ago…I guess it depends.

Do you listen to music while you write?

Yes! All the time! It really keeps me motivated and helps me type faster.

What do you write on? Laptop or paper?

I make notes and jot down ideas in my notebooks, and then actually do the outlining and writing on my laptop.

Is there a special ritual before/after you write?

Nope. I just write, write, write! 🙂

What do you do to get in the mood to write?

Looking on Pinterest helps me. Or listening to a really good song. Or reading a really good that makes me think hey, I want to write like that! But I’m usually to busy procrastinating to get to writing anyways… 😉

What is always near the place you write?

Notepads, pencils, pens, my notebooks, headphones, basically my workspace is an organized mess. 🙂 Oh, and don’t forget the most important thing…

Do you have a reward system for your word count?

Getting to go on the internet and not feel guilty is a reward enough for me! 🙂

That was the tag! I hope you enjoyed it and now I tag… Deborah at TheRoadofaWriter!

I shall blog again soon! 🙂

Imprint Cover + Snippets

As promised last post, here is the cover…

And a few scenes/snippets from the opening chapters…

The clerk rang up the can of beans and then noticed Paige’s bag.

“Whatcha got in the bag?” he asked suddenly interested.

Paige quirked an eyebrow.

“Um…I have a notebook,” said Paige studying his face. She did a double take on his eyes.

That’s an interesting choice in contacts…rainbows?!

“So you like to write then, I take it?” he said smiling.

“Yes…” Paige tried to hide her fear under a smile.

He’s just curious, don’t be so paranoid!

He nodded and swiped the box of macaroni under the scanner.

“Um…” he said examining the box, “Would you mind helping me?” he asked casually. He seemed to hold his breath a bit.

Paige noticed she was holding her breath too.

“Um…I’m sorry? But I’m told I shouldn’t go places with strangers.”

The man blew out a relieved breath and nodded like he was expecting Paige to say that.

“It’s a good rule,” he said still nodding.

Paige smiled apologetically.

“But I’m gonna need you to come with me anyway.”

Paige took a step back, hands shaking, “I’m sorry, but I don’t trust strangers.”

“Also, a good rule,” he said jumping onto the conveyor and lunging for her.

Paige screamed and ducked behind the counter, hitting her head on the backs of a man’s knees but he didn’t seem to notice. Nobody did.

The man was crawling off the counter and coming towards her again.

Blanching with fear, Paige clumsily got to her feet, kicking herself up until she could feel her legs jiggling under her.

And then she ran as fast as she could out of the store.

The electric door wasn’t as fast as Paige and she nearly ran into it.

Tripping on her toes, she ran out into the parking lot, clutching her tote so tightly she could feel her knuckles becoming white. But she wouldn’t stop.

Her sides throbbed, but the man had appeared behind her seemingly from nowhere, forcing her onward.

Just then, Paige felt a sharp surge of pain seep into her veins.

Suddenly dazed, she tried to locate the source. But it seemed to come from everywhere.

Everyone continued on, still slightly concerned for Paisley.

And then she noticed. There were strange words wrapping there way around her arm. Dark, bloody looking ink, crawling slowly up her arm. She stifled a shriek. That seemed to encourage the pain. Paige looked up again, but her family was still talking. She twisted her wrist and slowly started reading the words, “I’ve had enough of you, and you’re going to do as I say…whether you like it or not…”

“What are you doing here…” Paige whispered. Markus, of all people…

“…Paige?” Markus said cocking his head.

Paige realized that she probably looked so different that he just didn’t recognize her. Could he recognize her voice?

“I mean…what are you doing here so early?” Paige said, hoping this was early. For him at least.

“Paige, what are you talking about?” Markus blurted. He evidently didn’t want to keep up the charade anymore.

“I…” Paige blushed, casting her gaze towards the bookshelf.

“Shall I get some tea?” Markus asked, mockingly.

“No, actually, I already had some with Madame Gothel, thank you,” Paige rattled off dryly, fighting back the urge to scream.

Markus was really searching in the tower for a tea set now.

“Tell me how Gothel is treating you?” asked Markus mock-concerned.

“Oh, so now you want to play-act?” Paige glared fiercely at him. Why is he acting so weird?

Markus didn’t reply. Just suddenly slumped on the bed, head in his hands.

“Why are you here? It doesn’t make sense…”

“But it makes sense that you’re here? I don’t think so!” Paige seethed.

“You know, you’re not usually so feisty,” Markus looked up at Paige.

Paige glanced down at her feet, embarrassed at her anger.

“Well…you’re not usually so weird.”

“Really? What makes you say so?”

Paige was about to protest, but then she looked up and saw Markus smiling.

She sighed.

“Would you mind explaining how you got here, then, know-it-all?”

“You won’t believe me.” Markus crossed his arms over his chest defensively.

“I’m pretty sure I will, on a count of I had to get here somehow too. Just a reminder.” Paige’s voice dripped with sarcasm. It came on especially when she was angry.

“So, you know how the words work then? Why should I even bother telling you, huh?” Markus gave Paige a look that said, ‘if you don’t, I’m not explaining to you either.’

Paige had always thought they weren’t really fighting. And even if they did, they’d just argue with each other until madness broke out on both ends. And they were usually so sarcastic nobody would even think they were arguing anyway.

Paige held up a hand, sighing. “I’m sorry, I just…I have to get out of here!”

“Well, I’m sorry, but I’ve tried every way possible to get out of here.”

Paige cocked an eyebrow.

“But haven’t you only been here one night?”

“Yes, but I meant there’s no way out of here.” He gestured around.

Here. Right. Gotcha.”

Markus rolled his eyes again.

“This isn’t the only place here! There are other…kingdoms, I guess you could say, that are different fairytales.”

This got Paige interested.

“So you’re saying that this is like an alternate universe or something?”

“I don’t think so,” Markus replied, suddenly kind, “I think this is actually a real place. My theory is that it’s where book characters live.”

“How long have you been coming here…?” Paige mumbled under her breath.

They may change a bit as I perfect the story, but I hope you liked it!

Post again soon! 🙂

Cover for Rewrite!

So I was fiddling around on the internet, trying to find a good cover maker. (Because, according to the NaNo website, having a cover for your project will increase your chance of winning by 60%.)

And then I found Canva, which is an awesome website! They have thousands of different pictures and designs! You have to pay for some of them, but there are tons of free ones! I made this cover with only free choices. Do you like it?

It’s such a fun website to toy around on!

And to the fellow NaNo participants, how goes the plotting? If you’re a pantser, just ignore that question. 😛

I’m thinking my next post will be the cover for Imprint, my first book, and some snippets from the story!

I shall blog again soon!

Synopses Galore!

Hello, hello!

So today, I thought I would share some tentative synopses from my JuNoWriMo book and the second book that I’m doing for NaNoWriMo.

Are you enticed yet? No? Well…

Imprint (Imprint Trilogy #1)

When Paige is attacked by a vicious man, weird things start happening. She is thrown into a different world of burning ink, fairytales, and dangerous men. Not knowing who to trust, Paige tries to figure out how she fits into this scheme. But when things start getting more deadly, Paige must trust that God will be with her through it all.

I know, it’s kind of vague, but I’ll have some snippets up soon!

Rewrite (Imprint Trilogy #2)

Since her incident in Nore, Paige has been carrying a few too many loads than she should. But with her friend in danger, having to go to public school, and trying to handle all this magic stuff, can she be blamed? And when good and evil seem to mesh together, Paige must get the help of a new friend, along with some old pals, to stop the evil from ravaging her home.

I left this one vague for a reason…that reason being spoilers! 😉

I hope you liked them!

And if you’re doing NaNo this year, have fun and write well!

Mini Post: S&S Makeover

I gave my blog a makeover.

I thought about it, and decided it was time for a change. As much as I liked the other design, I found this one worked better for me.

Tell me how you like it! Do you like the old one better? Or maybe something else entirely?

And now, I need to actually plot my novel instead of watching Studio C videos a million times (Which by the way, are quite possibly the funniest people ever.)

I shall post more soon! 🙂

What I’ve Been Up To…{September}

Hello bloggers!

So, this past September has been crazy busy and I don’t see it slowing down in October.

But no worries! I will still be posting as much as I can.

And so I thought I would share the reason(s) why I’m so busy.

♦ I recently got a job at an apple farm very close to home, which is nice. It’s been a good experience so far and I love all the apples. 🙂

♦ I have wwaayy more homework than I’m used to since I’ve started going to a homeschool co-op this year. Nonetheless, I’m really enjoying! I’m taking a class on Photography, Bible History, and World Geography. All really good.

♦ I’ve just started up my music lessons again. I take piano and violin, which is new to me, but I’m liking it a lot! I don’t sound the best yet, you can ask my family…

♦ I have a literature study I do with some of my friends on Wednesdays where we just read and talk and hang out. We’re learning how to ‘analyze’ literature, so then I can say that I’m doing my ‘homework’ when I’m reading…

♦ I’m rebuilding my dresser to be a desk! It’s going good so far. I’m looking for cute desk chairs…

♦ Reading scene hasn’t been as good as I would’ve liked… I think I read like 5 books last month…

Yeah, yeah, I know, not the best… Currently I have Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas and Five Enchanted Roses by various bloggers I follow 🙂 on hold at the library, so, excited!

♦ Writing scene is definitely going better than reading scene. I’m working on my second draft, and I am so excited about it!

I should really share some snippets or something…maybe in the next post?

♦ And lastly, I think I’ll be doing Nanowrimo for my second book! Since I did Junowrimo for the first one, why not do Nano for the second, right? Let me know in the comments if you’re going to participate in Nanowrimo!

I hope you enjoyed having a little glimpse into goings-on. 🙂

Until the next post! 🙂
